unlesss fully supported you can convert the raw files to DNG.

AFAIK the DNG support is broken in C1-v4 for files created out of RAW files from A700 (I do not know about DNGs from other camera RAWs). It kinda chews on it but the C1-v4 fails on saving TIF/JPGs at the last stage of processing with a message which says sorry ImgCoreProcess.exe is bailing out. I have entered a support case the other day and the response I got from P1 support today is as follows -

"Currently we only support cameras which are on the supported camera list. The Sony A700 should be included in this list very soon.-"

....to expect an update, that will include A700 support....I guess I am not the only one who is looking into alternative RAW converters right now.
I think Phaseone could loose several satisfied 3.7.7 users to other producers of RAW conversions software.
    regards,
    Bernd

Strange....The V4 BETA renders DNG-Files converted from Sony A700 RAWs properly. Was the BETA supporting the A700? Don't think so..... 😊

Well..."properly" is a little far fetched, ISOs above 800 can look pretty strange...
    this certainly requires some adjustment.
I understand that since V4 is a free upgrade there is little incentive for PhaseOne to get things going fast. Heck, I would pay for a good RAW converter, as long as it works with A700 files properly....I would even like to have 3.7.7 with A700 RAWs....

DNG (out of RAW from A700) processing of C1-v4 Beta2 appeared having a problem in the sense that the "histograms" of theoutput images were not smooth. I mean, look at the RGB histograms of the image, and it appears substantially jumpy (looks more like 8bit) that makes you wonder if the software is properly processing the 16bit data. Messing around the option setting for DNG converter did not help.

Outputs from SONY's IDC and Adobe's Camera RAW (CS3) do not exhibit this behavior.

Now I do not see this problem any more, but it is not because P1 fixed it but because the C1-v4 release won't give me any output anyways (&%$#"!?).

So for now, I am living on IDC and occasionally on Camera RAW.

    A follow-up .

I noticed that by assigning DNG-Neutral for ICC profile (a popup menu under the Quick tooltab), C1v4 processes DNG out of A700 OK. It looks we need to do this setting manually and explicitly. And the histogram of the output image looks OK, too.

Previously with beta2 this (manual ICC profiling) was not necessary; but apparently we need it for C1v4 release. And I do not know what the support thought I was talking about , but obviously their response I quoted in my eralier post was not hitting the right point. Anyhow, just FWIW.
