    Chris,
Although we appreciate the feedback this is a User to User forum. From the post it's clear that you would like to address Phase One directly, which would be better done through a support case. Please create a support case so that we can log your bugs and requests through the appropriate channels.

    Drew -

While I agree that creating a support case for actual issues and bugs is important, I don't agree about feature requests. This being a user forum, I think it is critical to engage your community (as a community) about what they want to see. You are very fortunate to have purchased a product that has a core group of very knowledgeable and committed users - they are looking for ways to improve your product.

Using the forum as a tool for feature suggestions means that users will be able to 'vote' into those forums with their voices of support - giving you *and* the community a useful gauge for what the interest is in new features. Having an opaque feature request system as it is now means that we don't have an ability to publicly contribute to the forward path of the product.

A public feature request would also allow other users to improve on the initial user's idea.

My first feature request is the official go-ahead to use the forums as a venue for said requests.

    Andrew.

Two requests for features in EM2:

    1. keyboard shortcuts for calling in helper applications (e.g. Photoshop)

    2. edited media files generated by helper applications should be automatically added to the catalog, preferrably positioned next to the original media file.

The second feature is extremely important. I spend a lot of time manually importing the image files made by helper applications or by i-view media, and it drove me to buy Lightroom. I'd prefer to stick with i-view/EM.

    Thank you.

    Bob -

I think with feature requests it makes more sense to start a separate thread for each, so that they don't get lost in a general discussion. This way people can chime in on each particular request.

I want to clarify what you mean though in your two requests here.

For one, are you wanting a shortcut key that would automatically open up Photoshop, or automatically open whatever file you have clicked on into Photoshop? That is a good request. I am sure you know that by right-clicking on a file you can then choose to open it in any helper application, but a keyboard shortcut would be a bonus.

If you are on a Windows machine and have a shortcut to Photoshop on your desktop (or any program with an icon on the desktop) you can right-click on the icon and go to 'Properties' and then 'Shortcut Key' - here you can assign whatever shortcut key you want to automatically start that program (for instance, ALT+CONTROL+P). MeM aside I have found this to be a productivity boon - almost all my commonly used programs now have an icon on the desktop with a shortcut key assigned.

For your second request, are you talking about when a 'derivative' file is created? Say you create a PSD or JPG from your master RAW file - are you saying that you want to have that particular image automatically imported into the DAM and then paired with the original RAW file? If yes, then that functionality is already (sort of) built in - you just need to turn on 'folder watching' for the particular folder that you these edited files are being saved to. MeM will then scan that folder to see if there have been any added/deleted files. I myself don't like to use folder watching because I like to manually control exactly what is added/taken away from the catalogue. If you then set the view to sort by file name (and if the root of your file name stays the same) then these files, the RAW and the Derivative will then sit next to each other. However, and this is a big one, I don't think (someone can probably confirm) that the newly added files will be added to the parent Catalogue Set.

For example, let's say you had all of catalogue set called Client A - those new files would be added to the actually catalogue itself, but not to the Catalogue Set where the parent resides; unless you manually add it. Can someone confirm that is the case.

But I digress - I think starting a new thread for each request is the way to go.

keyboard shortcut for helper application - clarification.

The request: be able to call in a helper app with a keyboard shortcut.
    Clarification of the request:

I have several helper apps., but the one I call most frequently is photoshop.
After I select an image thumbnail in i-view, I would like to be able to open that image in photoshop by using a keyboard shortcut. At present, in order to open that image in ps. I have to go to the helper app icon, click it, and then scroll down the list of helper apps to "photoshop." Replacing this procedure with a keyboard shortcut would speed things up a lot. (Right clicking on the selected thumbnail doesn't really help, as I still have to scroll menus to select photoshop.)

    Rowat:

Thank you for pointing out the Folder update (and auto-update) feature. I was unaware of it. It takes care of ninety percent of the problem. After auto-update adds the newly-created file to the end of the catalog, I can sort by file name in order to position the new derivative file next to its parent file in the catalog.

However, I have to be careful as that sort operation will destroy any custom ordering of the thumbnail images that I may have created. Thus, it may be necessary to manually move the new derivative file's thumbnail from the end of the catalog to a position next to its parent thumbnail. That's the 10 percent of the problem that isn't solved. But I can live with it.

    Rowat:

In Preferences >General: "Doubleclick" you can choose what to do: change view, start lighttable or start the original program etc. Isn't that easier than a keyboard shortcut?

Setting the 'doubleclick' to open with creator application works very nicely. Thank you for pointing out this possibility. I will now routinely change the creator app for all images to photoshop. (I'm Mac OSX-based). Bob

    Jorgen -

Nice one. I had forgotten that you could control the behaviour of the double-click. That being said, being able to assign keyboard shortcuts to helper applications (or other functions) would be a welcome addition.
