So many problems in CO7 with tethered Canon 5D3
Just a warning to anyone even thinking about using CO7 during an actual job - DO NOT USE IT!!! I wanted to test v7 during an actual shoot, so I installed it on a spare Macbook Pro and had v6.4.3 on my production Macbook Pro as backup and am I glad I brought the old version because v7 had so many problems it was causing me crazy amount of stress.
First, v7 had problems attaching the Canon 5D3. Okay, so I pulled the SDK (or whatever it's called) from the latest EOS Utility and dropped it into CO7 as detailed in some other thread here on the board - totally saved me so thanks to those who figured that out.
Second, preview images were taking an eternity to come up as they were shot - like 8-10 seconds per shot. I set the preview size to be 1200px (same as I had on v6.4.3).
Third, the thumbnails of the images that were shot but didn't have previews yet all had a big ? with a circle and when clicked on, said UNAVAILABLE all over as a watermark until the preview was ready. I've never seen that behavior before and it made the client (and me) nervous that captures weren't coming in.
Finally, images were not properly sorting by Date. The latest shot would always appear at the top (reverse sorting was NOT activated) then they would move to somewhere in the middle of the list, before moving down to the bottom. What it appeared was happening was that the custom renaming I used of (JOB NAME_4 Digit Counter) was not being applied right away and captures were coming in first with a camera counter number, showing up in the thumbnail list, then getting renamed. But this was jumbling up the captures as I was shooting and slowing down everything.
So after the second shot I said to hell with CO7 and brought in my other Macbook with v6.4.3 and it was smooth sailing from there. Not a single problem which gave me a bitter distrust of CO7. Obviously I validated every warning that v x.0 software should never be used on a job. So glad I had my other laptop with me.
