Unable to import Sony ARW
EM is unable to import or recognize Sony ARW files.
I am on Windows 7 64 bit.
Would anyone know if this can be corrected?
Thanks.

You have to install the Sony RAW driver (codec). Then you can use the Syony ARW´s.
You can download the driver on the Sony support site, e.g. here0 -
I did install the Sony RAW driver (codec).
It still will not recognize the ARW files.
I did install after I installed Expression Media though.
Would that make a difference?
Thanks,

Are you running Service Pack 2 of EM2? (might help, not sure) 0 -
Yes I am running EM2 SP2.
I also did uninstall and did a fresh install from the downloads from the Phase One site including the service packs..
It still does not recognize Sony ARW Raw files. This includes A700 and A850 files.

Hmm,
I´m running under Vista 32bit and have no problems with ARW´s from my A700. I also can load my old Minolta D7D MRW-files.
Is the codec the newest, supporting the 64bit Windows 7 ?
Can you see the ARW-files in the normal Windows explorer ?0 -
I do have the latest Sony Codec and I am able to see the Minolta ARW Raw files but not the Sony ARW files.
As far as I know I have the latest Sony Raw codec.
Yes I am able to see the ARW files in Windows Explorer
Are you saying that you are able to import Sony ARW A700 Raw files?
Thanks,
Bill0 -
Yes. I´ve never had problems with my Sony ARW-files. Usually I´m working with cRAW, but I just tested the "regular" RAW, no problems.
Perhaps you can give me one of your RAW-files, than I could test it here. Perhaps its a Windows 7 problem, I´m on Vista. But this would be very couriously ☹️0 -
Thanks for verifying this for me.
I guess it is a Windows 7 issue.
I could get a raw file to you , I am not sure if it would email though.
Guess I will have to wait and see if there are any updates to correct this.
Thanks.

You also have to update the preferences. Otherwise EM2 don't understand to use the external driver instead of the internal rendering.
I'm at work now and can't give you the extct settings. Look in the preferences and you will find the answer. There is a section about how to render the RAW files.
Update:
Found it. Under "Edit" -> "Preferences" -> "Media Rendering" you find a tab called "RAW". Change the "Preferred Engine" to Windows Imaging Component.0
