I would rather just use a black mat board and not waste the ink to be honest.

Is there a mechanism for printing a black border around an image? If not, would Capture One consider adding that in the future?

There isn't such a feature. If you'd like Phase One to consider adding it, suggest it in a support case. (We're only fellow users here.)

I think if you are into printing borders and all of that type of print presentation work you might be better to produce an output print file from C1 and then use a dedicated image printing application to add the borders. Or an appication that already has such features.

However, as Tim Trim has observed already, personally I would prefer not to use the ink unless the border was a very narrow outline.

On the other hand if I was using a printing service I would wonder if they could provide those finishing touches without changing the price.

I asked the same question in the scripts section, and Ben answered me that it would be possible to do it using a script involving overlays.
As I don't know anything about scripts, the best for me would still be to use a devoted software such as Photoshop, Affinity Photo, or Pixelmator....
I write "would" because I don't use it very often, and when I would like to do it, it won't be for printing but only for a web gallery or site.

    Good Point.

Since it is possible to include an overlay in an output file it should be possible to create a suitable overlay file to give the border and include that in the output. Or at least one assumes so.

ETA: A quick test suggests that there may indeed be a way to deliver this although it may be easier of the border "image" is the main image and the overlay is a pre-processed output of the image you wish to "print".
