because Panasonic makes cameras (LX3 = DLux4 for example) for Leica, C1 is shipped w/ Leicas (SilkyPix is shipped w/ Panasonics), there is an agreement that P1 will not officially support Panasonic cameras so that Leica will have some advantage (better raw converter is one of them, just do not go to SP forum w/ that statement... and other mostly look & feel things) over it Panasonic twins... so the only way for you to work w/ Panasonic RAW files is DIY patching of those files (well, not the only way - but more practical under the circumstances) so that they will be like Leica RAW files... google it - I have posted the method several times on dpreview forums for LX3 files and G(H)1 files too... note that in addition to the patching you need to create a profile to use w/ G(H)1 file to make sure that colors will be right - you need IT8/colorchecker (for example good and cheap IT8 targets - www.coloraid.de) target and programs like ProfilePrism, ProfileMaker, etc (you might be able to find freeware programs too - otherwise ProfilePrism is like USD $80 w/ IT8 target included... http://ddisoftware.com)... or you need to ask around - may be somebody already have a good, home-made profile to use.

Thanks a lot for your answer and the very useful and clear patch instructions. It turns out that I do have a coloraid target and a Profile Prism license as well. BTW, the G1 Qimage profile uses one of my shots, at the time when Mike Chaney did not own one...

The patch is a bit of a hassle, but much better than nothing; however I hope, since there is no G1/GH1 clone made by Leica, that Phase One will eventually propose G1/GH1 profiles.... Anybody in ?

no, do not expect any official support for any panasonic cameras until Leica and P1 will break that agreement.

old news - I asked here alread back then... it seems that does not affect the agreement where PanaLeicas will be exclusively supplied w/ C1 to make them different from PanaSonics

When I asked the question Phase One said lack of support for Panasonic Cams was as a result of "a strategic agreement" with Leica.
Can't help feeling they've forgotten the strategic agreement with their customers; so many pro photogs own an LX3 wondacam now it has become a joke that P1 don't support it. A bad joke.

Now Leica are supposedly bundling Adobe LIghtroom with their new cameras will Phase finally support Panasonic cameras? Specifically the GF1. Please!

If Leica is dumping P1 for Adobe, then I think it is silly that P1 continue to not support Panasonic. In fact, by supporting Panasonic and producing better files that Leica-Adobe combo, people will be able to judge that P1 has a much better converter.

I sincerely hope to see this happen soon.

What would be smart from you, Ulf, is an updated answer from Phase One on the possible future support for Panasonic 4/3 cameras.

    Thanks in advance

Guys, please read point 1 and 2.

Now that it's no longer rumour are you prepared to provide a response? It's a relatively simple request, if you're not prepared to allow customers to use the cameras they choose with your software please let us know.

Yes Ulf, Leica has dumped C1 for LR. I'm surprised you would not be in the know.

I'll add my name to the "wake up Ulf" list! Ulf, it is no longer a rumour...

    I quote from Leica's US site today Sep 10 2009;
    "WORKFLOW
Included with the LEICA M9, is a license for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, a professional digital workflow solution available for both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The software is a free download for LEICA M9 customers, to guarantee that the most current version is always available."

I'm increasingly feeling like an idiot for sticking with C1. I suffer from crashes, appallingly poor performance over network, no Panasonic support.

Should I give in and go Lightroom? It seems Leica have and they have a

    professional

    reputation. 🤬

The simple fact is that it is presumptions, unless you have actual contract in front of you.

And also now politics (so to speak) is being discussed instead of focusing on being a user to user Capture One forum.

In either case lets give some clarification, but I can not go in to details since much is between us and Leica.

We are still committed to supporting the Leica cameras among others Capture One 4.8.3 (released any minute now) does support the M9 and we expect future Leicas to come on board as well when they are released.

We are also committed to vast range of other brands that is coming with many new camera models such as Canon, Nikon, Sony etc etc.

What it the major undertaking right now is the support for Leaf medium format camera backs. Every time you add a new brand there is much work to be done, and especially medium format since much more is depending on software with large sensor CCDs compare to small CMOS sensors.

This is of course important since Leaf Imaging is now owned by Phase One.
As I am sure you can understand from a roadmap point of view this get a front seat compared to adding on new brands (semi-new in the Leica aspect) such as Panasonic.

Having that said we are investigating also at the same time what the possibilities are to add 3/4 Panasonic since request for this seem to increase drastically lately.

Another thing. Capture One exist for Mac OS and Windows and has since -98
Also since then it has been available for download "to guarantee that the most current version is always available." since then.

I am just a techie, trying to pitch in some good words here and there for example if discussion goes south or contains incorrect information.
There is nothing to "wake up" about, I work with customers and dealers on software and hardware every single day and I am well aware about what issue there might be or which issues there is not but some pass of there to be.

We (Tech Support) help some of the best photographer in the world and we help the guy that just bought his first Rebel and Capture One. Very different type of support, but always professional, of course there is differences in the support options we offer since they reflect the investment made.
Which is no different from any other industry.

I am sorry that there is no Panasonic support currently which seem to be the big chip for you but most other things we can help you with, if you let us.

I will lock this topic here since it has done its course and answers has been given to the original question/request.
