    In the color editor:
    Hit the advanced tab.
Click on the color range you want to keep saturated.
Example: If its a yellow umbrella, use the eyedropper and click in the yellow of the umbrella.
Now, find the "view selected color range" panel under the color wheel.
Beside the "view selected color range" you will see a pie chart looking icon.
    Click that icon.
Now in the advanced color tab, adjust saturation slider down until you get the look you are looking for.

Yes thank you I go that far however, how can I export only that adjusted layer that contains the selected colour range but not the main layer?

You can not export a layer specifically. You export all layers.

What you could do, is that you lower the exposure on the background layer to the max, and compensate it in the adjustment layer.
