Camera won't trigger power pack when connected to firewire

But wait there's more. I use a EOS1 D2S. I was connected to a Speedotron 4803 CX when the pack blew a cap. After that the pc outlet on the side of the camera stopped functioning but I could mount a pc connector adaptor on the hot show and sync from there. Then that failed, at least on the 4803's, but it does trigger the 2403 CX. I was testing it again yesterday before sending it off when I discovered it would trigger the 4803's when the firewire wasn't connected. Also I notice when the firewire is connected and I link the camera to the pack it triggers the flash as it's being connected, something it does when the polarity is reversed on the household plug that comes out of the pack. WTF?
