Windows 10 update deactivates Capture One
After a major Windows 10 update yesterday, my Capture One had been deactivated. I managed to reactivate but why should a Windows update do this?

It looks like, latest update wipes out some users data, that leads to deactivation. It happened to with my other software on windows 10. 0 -
Purely a guess but ...
I have read that this major Win 10 release "allows" a direct "clean install".
Previously an update had to be applied to an earlier Win version, be verified by MS and then a clean install could be made.
So my guess is that the apparent default "update" may be a "clean install" (or a partial clean install with some applications being exceptions - MS applications for example?) and therefore the existing activations are discarded.
Are there options available to control how you want the update to be applied?
Personally I am not enthusiastic about upgrading to Win 10 at this time Maybe by the end of the "free upgrade" year things will be more encouraging and tempting.
Those of you already on the Windows 10 journey may well have different opinions!

There is a way to turn automatic updates off, as I recall which I usually do on my production boxes, to avoid situations listed above happening in middle of day work. 0 -
While I'm glad for the alert which confirmed my decision not to rush out for upgrading to W10 I think the question itself would belong to a MS forum or presented to MS. Fine when there exists an option to do a clean install - as long as the user is totally aware of the consequences that his/her other SW may stop working. Perhaps the entire machine needs then a "clean install" - which may be fine to get rid of mountains of unneeded files but certainly demands at least some hours to get the system back to full operation. 0 -
The update from Win 10 (10240) to V1511 (Build 10568.3) does NOT allow a clean update. There is no option to do a clean install if you update.
The only way you will get a clean upgrade is if you select a "clean" upgrade when you go from Win 7 or Win 8.1 to Win 10 ... that is an upgrade not an update.
No issues here on 3 PC's.
Also no problems whatsoever with any software.0 -

Ah, OK.
However I guess there is still the possibility that the process somehow fails to handle existing registrations/activations in some circumstances due to a change in the way the updates are applied?
Or perhaps something simply did not process as expected leaving some unfortunate users to take some extra steps after the update?

Possibly, but it is highly unlikely, the only other thing I can think of is that if you download the current version and update manually then you can have the option either to keep (default) or not either applications or user data ... but you would have to explicitly unclick the check boxes.
The automatic updates don't allow any options.

So far only C1 seens to have been affected in this way although the Windows 10 update did remove Speccy and said Blurity would not work - it does! 0 -

You cannot turn updates off.
Windows 10 Home users will receive updates from Windows Update automatically when it’s available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to postpone updates. The amount of time that Windows 10 Pro users can postpone updates is limited.0 -

Sounds like what you mean is an "upgrade" from win 7/8.1 to Win 10.
There seems to be some issues with the activation system that Phase One uses as in my Software Licences it is showing 4 activations ... 2 are on the one machine number (I suspect Windows 7 & Windows 10 entries) and the other I am not sure because I have only ever installed on the same 2 machines, but now I have 3 machine IDs 😄
All are for Capture On Pro 8 Single user and now my Activations Left shows -1 ... go figure 🤓0 -
This what Microsoft have referred to as “Threshold 2†of Windows 10. 0
