Problem Resetting path of images on different disks
I have rephrased this issue in a new thread:
Hello,
I am working with my catalogs on 2 machines (Windows7 64-bit).
One is laptop when I travel, the other is a desktop-pc at home.
During travels the images are stored on the local disk of the laptop and imported into a temporary catalog.
Upon returning home the images are copied onto a disk of the desktop-pc and then imported into the 'valid' catalog of the current year. So far so good - no problems here.
On longer trips I want to take the current years catalog AND all its images along. Therefore I copy all images onto an external disk that is connected with an eSATA connection and I also copy the catalog onto the local disk on the laptop.
To make the catalog work with the images now on the external drive, one needs only to reset the path pointing to the images.
So far this seems to work alright. BUT it isn't so quite.
For instance:
On the laptop running EM2, select any folder and an image within that folder.
press the DEL key (not the X button) to remove that image from the catalog only.
On that same folder right-click and select 'Update Folder Now...'.
That folder seems to get updated, but in a strange way - it is added to the root of the current catalog.
The result is 2 folders with the same name and content but on different levels within the folder hierarchy.
This happens only in the catalog on the laptop with the images on the external drive.
On the desktop the above operation functions just fine and as expected.
I find this behavior rather strange. Thought it might have something to do with the drive letter and/or the Volume-Label name stored in the catalog that was created on the desktop-pc, but that is not the case. In my case drive-letter and volume-Label name are equal for both disks, the one in the desktop-pc and the external disk.
Seems as if EM2 is somewhere storing specific disk information inside the catalog. Is that true? And if so, can this be adjusted somehow (Reset Folder Path doesn't do that - at least in my case)?
Helpful hints and tips are highly appreciated.
Thanks, Hans.
