Adding info at time of exposure

I have a huge project that consists of taking thousands of photos while moving from place to place in a fairly small area and adding a unique code to each photo. It would save me a lot of time if I could do this at the time of exposure rather than later on. Ideally I would have my Canon 5D II tethered to the laptop so I could do this in Capture One but it may not be convenient to carry the laptop when I shoot. Could this be done wirelessly with the laptop in the general area but connected via WiFi and using iPad or iPhone to key in the data?

  I had completely forgotten a tiny new product called Macbook Air. That should work fine with Capture One, should it not?
