Unnecessary Folder Creation: C1PRO 7 x64
Are the rest of the Windows 7 x64 system seeing unnecessary folder creation when you make a new session?
For example, I created a non-tethered session and change the default "Output" folder to "TIFF." In addition to C1PRO making "TIFF" folder, it also creates the default "Output" AND "Capture" folder within the session.
I have submitted the case report. If anyone else experience this bug, please submit case reports so that C1PRO developers will have more data to squish the bug.

One program error, one user bug. 😉
The program error is that CO7 always creates a tethered session, including a Capture Folder. This is not correct if you had chosen Untethered when creating the session.
Regarding renaming the default folder names, like 'TIFF' instead of 'Output' this works correct. However, the possible misunderstanding is that you might expect 'TIFF' in the Session Folders section of the Library. This is not correct. The session folder is always 'Output' as it designated to a FUNCTION name in contrast to the actual FOLDER name on system level. This is indeed named 'TIFF' in this example. Because by default the FUNCTION name and FOLDER name are the same, not many users are aware of the distinction. The New Session dialog however identifies this (once you know).
It is the same when you create a folder afterwards, when the session is already there, and make that folder the Output Folder. Basically this is at the heart of the session concept, only think in functions, not worrying about folder names and locations.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi Paul,
In C1PRO6, I rename my "Output" folder to "TIFF," because this is where I want my processed TIFFS to be stored. By default on C1PRO, the output folder was simply named "Output."
In C1PRO7, even after I input "TIFF" into the output field, C1PRO7 creates the folder "Output" anyway AND makes "TIFF" because of my specification in the new session dialog popup.
In that regard, it is a bug. I don't see that in C1PRO6.0 -
Hi Ronald,
I could not copy that behavior you described for CO7. No folder with named 'Output' is created. I tried it on both Win & Mac. On my systems it works like CO6.
I consider what you encounter as a bug too.0 -
Hi Paul,
Watch my video: http://youtu.be/nbgvmxfQkKk?hd=1.
How does something like this pass the QA or beta testing?!
☹️
I have a case report for version 6 detailing something like this. That was fixed. But how could the bug came back to life?0 -
Hi Ronald,
I watched your video. I saw the extra folder 'Output' is created after program restart. I could copy that behaviour and made a note about it for reporting it to Phase One. The unnecessary Capture folder has already been reported.
When I assign the Output folder function again to the folder TIFF, after the first restart, it remains assigned to that folder, as long as there is an folder named Output.
For the time being, I would suggest to keep the default name for the Output folder when you create the session. Next step directly after that is that you create your TIFF folder and assign it as the output folder. This assigment should not changed afterwards. It is a hassle, but hopefully it works until it is fixed.0 -

For me this is the heart of C1's problem. Anyone doing serious shooting is certainly going to worry about where things are on their folders and image database.
Everytime I use C1 I struggle with where and why things go where they do .
I have my files on the server setup in a particular order using Image browsers and DAM that ingest the files with keywording ratings and all sorts of functions....And the last thing anyone needs is a bunch of folders spread across it, along with a number of tasks a DAM should handle that now my Raw developer decided to take on the task of.Which is all the functions the Catalog and its functions will do, with another set of terms and unknowns to deal with.....And its rather worrisome to hear "Only worry about function and not folder names and location". I tried this suggested approach, and spent an hour cleaning up and reorganizing my files after a job.
I hope one day C1 changes this approach and gains the original fans it had that made C1 the "popular" app it is today. But now with Catalog added on top of the problem, oh boy, I think many users will have better reason to stay using what ever cataloging they have been before C1v7, which is likely LR, or an actual DAM application. What happens to the efforst and my Media Pro I had high hopes for?
I post this in hopes someone with sense of a different direction within Phase One understands my pain and MANY others in like situation. I know a P1 dealer or two that certainly do. Kinda sad for me, as I have been a C1 enthusiast, but with every nice feature step forward, there has been a core workflow step backward. (It still has limitations of Dual screen with Browser being on the second screen.)
To answer the poster's question: Yes C1 places (to nicely state) "unecessary" folders all over your Harddrive folders at times you simply browse and access. You'd think it would ask if we want to have C1 develop in this folder. But it doesn't.
I don't think reporting this to support helps, as it is part of how C1 functions. (At least from what I understand the "problem" you are having).
Other naming practices are also just confusing and go against MAC or Win OS standards. With this continued direction in v7 of C1, they lost me as a fan. Sorry. What makes it even harder for me is that I'm a MF Phase1 back user! and I have purchased the Pro licenses.
If Phase One wants to go this direction without the option of simply being a developer, then at least let other DAM applications see or make a thumbnail of your IIQ file format! Why is Adobe the only one?
It only makes Phase One's job harder to gain market on Adobe, while other apps that want to simply be a DAM, and let C1 do the developing. This option isn't available to other software companies.
Wow , where did this post go? Ok, yes, C1, please ask us if we want to work in the folder, and only then spread your files, and let us know what you did in a simple OS style GUI. thank you!0 -
Hi Paul,
In the new version 7.0.1, half the bug is killed. If you repeat the experiment, you will see that the untethered session is recognized (no "Capture" folder), but the Output folder is still being created. I have reported this residual inconvenience to Tech Support.[quote="Paul_Steunebrink" wrote:

Hi Ronald,
So, one down, one to go. 😉0 -
Actually, half down and half to go. The Dev team fixed half the problem. 😊
I am go THANKFUL the team listened about the Clarity tool. I wrote in and told them how horrible the new Clarity tool looked for subjects photographed against a grey background. The color grey is a POPULAR color choice. You know? I am certain several others (big names) probably wrote in and complained about the new Clarity look of version 7.
With the release of 7.0.1, C1PRO is living up to its name of "what the world's best photography is made of."[quote="Paul_Steunebrink" wrote:

The Clarity Classic is probably what you are referring to and an attempt (successful as it seems) to revive the CO6 Clarity look. 0 -
Exactly and it was perfect! 😊 [quote="Paul_Steunebrink" wrote:

THIS BUG STILL PERSISTS in version 7.0.2.
Why?!?!0
