BW Color toning

Hello,

Im working with color images being converted to BW. Im looking for finer color toning control than what available in "split toning".

I would like to be able to tone an image with the same level of control found in the color balance tool. Problem is that once you convert to BW and apply a split tone, the color editor and color balance tool only see the base image not the colors applied via split toning.

I know I could export to PS and re-import and then it will be treated like a color image. This is not idea however.

Any suggestions?

  Try decreasing saturation to zero, then using the color balance.

  Now thats just to simple! Need something much harder and more difficult to find. LOL
  
  I tried all the complicated methods, didn't try the obvious.
