Did you perhaps convert your Canon raw files to DNG with a DNG converter?

The profiles should be stored in <drive>\\Program Files\\Phase One\\Capture One 4\\Color Profiles\\DSLR. You can check that to be sure.

No, I saw early on that the DNG support was really flimsy. All the Canon RAW files are CR2 files - straight from the flash cards.

All the profiles are listed and available - C4 just doesn't recognize what camera has been used and apply the correct profile - it starts every file as "Generic" and I must manually set the correct profile.

Ah, now I see... C4 is apparently picking up the correct camera profile but for some bizarre, unknown reason is showing it a simply "Generic". When I drop down the chooser, the correct profile is the first listed, though grayed out and unselectable. As this changes correctly for the chosen RAW file, I'm assuming that the real profile is being used.

Which begs the question - what in blazes is Phase One doing here? Why not actually show the profile name? I understand that there may be more than one profile for a given camera, but there seems to be enough room to show the profile name.

I have another problem but that needs it's own thread...

They are just indicating that you are using the generic profile for your camera. It is working correctly.
