Response time for heal/clone layer adjustments very long...

I have been trying to use the heal/clone layer on an image variant (originally an NEF image from a Nikon D7000).

I am finding that Capture One becomes almost unusable when I try to work with the heal/clone tool. I'm seeing a four or five second delay between trying to select the area I want to work on and a highlight appearing, and overall the responsiveness of this operation is appallingly slow.

I have a relatively powerful computer - a 2010 Mac Pro (2x 2.4 Ghz Quad Core Xeon processors, 12 GB Ram, Radeon R9 280X graphics card) that is running off an SSD system disk.

I'm running latest version of OS X, and Capture One 8.3

I read elsewhere in this forum that the heal/clone feature is pretty useless, but it is potentially useful nonetheless. But until I get it to perform at sensible speed I cannot see how I can.

Anyone got any suggestions / guidance about how to get it perform better? Or is the performance I'm seeing normal?

  That's very odd. I have a mid-2011 iMac with 20GB of RAM and a 21" display. The heal/clone tool has a short lag or delay but its closer to 0.5 to 1 second at absolute most. How big of an area are you working on in your image? I have to admit that I do small areas.
