Newbie Question

I'm considering purchasing either DXO Optics Pro or Capture One Pro as my RAW converter. I using a Canon 1Ds Mark III, by the way, primarily for landscape photography.

I'm looking for all input possible on why going with Capture One Pro is a better decision vs. DXO...?

Or if anyone would just like to give me their simple opinion on Capture One Pro, that would be most appreciated.

  Capture One is generally well known for its image quality. I have no experience with DxO. I suggest you download and use Capture One or Capture One Pro for a 30-day trial (fully functional). Note that you posted in the CO3 forum, which is a legacy product. Check out the CO 4 & 5 forum here as well. You can do a search there as well, I believe this topic has been discussed there earlier.

  When I first got my Canon 7D I gave DXO an extended test based on its supposed excellent noise handling charcteristics (I was already a satisfied Cap One user, but I'm open-minded about converters).
  
  Sure enough, it is good in that regard: but it is slow; the interface is clunky and unintuitive; the image preview has very little do with the actual end-result of the conversion - a big problem if you're interested in maximising detail); and the overall image quality was certainly no better than Cap One's, but Cap One was far more consistent and easy to evaluate before conversion.
  
  I have no use for lens correction tools, so can't comment on DxO's.
  
  Suffice it to say that I remain a satisfied Cap One 5 user...

  Really depends on what sort of photography you do, and what camera, so the suggestion to get both free downloads and try them is the way to go. As always, strengths and weaknesses, you'll really discover that ideally both are desirable if you want to cover all bases.
  
  I've got both DxO and C1. The lens correction modules were why I bought the DxO; they work really well so long as they are available for your lens(es). I've just waited over 5 months for the Nikon 70-200mm VRII lens module to be released having bought one of the first lenses. Thus I was unable to use the DxO on anything where I'd shot more than one lens if I wanted colour cohesion. Having had to pay the 'Elite' software price, I found myself getting poor service whilst they released modules for 'kit' lenses..... The DxO recovery of cylinders and spheres is fantastic on wide lenses. Low noise in low light is another strength. I've found their colour not to be a strong point.
  
  Capture One gives great colours, detail and operability with styles. I'm a newcomer to C1Pro, (having used 3.7 which came with my Leica M8) but becoming ever more enamoured as I become more aware of its capabilities.

  May be DXO is better in some areas, but it's much slower in everything it does. It's just very hard to work with DXO after one gets used to the speed of CO.
