If by email you actually mean email may I suggest that you instead use the Support Case system for managed, personalised and free support. That way you and Phase will have a clear record of your request.

That said all but one of your questions can probably be answered by the members of this User to User forum.

And the one that cannot (Loupedeck) may elicit some replies nevertheless.

Be aware that Phase never normally discuss possible future developments, one way or the other, publicly. It is a policy that they adhere to 99.999% of the time and the only exceptions I can recall were within hours of an update release that contained the functionality under discussion.

    Hi,

I'm new to Capture One and enjoying many aspects of the software. I have a number of questions I'm looking for help with. I have emailed Capture One support but they never reply so any help with any of the questions is appreciated.

1- Is there a way to have the renaming counter always reset to 1 automatically?
    For what specific use case(s)?

2 - Can I create an 'action' connected to a keyboard shortcut. I would like to create an action that automatically adds 2 filled layers, one called exposure and one called colour. Is this possible?

    No.

3 - How do you switch the orientation of the crop ratio. It defaults to landscape even if the ratio is entered as portrait. In lightroom you press X to switch the orientation.
Just grab a corner or side and move it/re-draw it.

4 - Can I change the size of the metadata/description boxes. At the moment I can only see two lines, which makes writing long captions trickier than it ought to be.
Create a floating version of the Meta data tool and you can stretch if to full screen size which will then display larger fields for those with variable size options.

5 - Is there a way to spell check the metadata?

No. However there are options to re-use previous entries.

6- If I star rate a Jpg is there a way to match the rating to the duplicate raw?

No. Would you not be working on the RAW file anyway?

7- If |I add more images into the 'capture' folder outside of Capture One as in move pics into the folder using Windows file explorer. How do I sync the capture folder in Capture One to show the new images?

Are you using the Catalog system or Sessions?

If catalogue I would suggest you just import them from where they are to save having a 2 step process but there are many options and catalogue users will no doubt offer their opinions in good time.

8- Is there a way to adjust the hue of the red/green/blue channels as there is in lightroom?

9- I've had an eye icon come up on the image thumbnails which seems to indicate read only. I've been editing the image fine and then the eye image has appeared. Is this an option to make an image read only? Have I inadvertently hit a shortcut to protect an image?
If you have been editing it in C1 before the eye image appears it might suggest that the original file has gone off line or become otherwise unavailable for some reason. Maybe moved outside C1?

10 - the 'output' panel doesn't have a vertical scroller. I have to minimise the window panels one by one to get to the 'process' button. Have I missed something?
No. There are a lot of panels available.

A screen with a greater pixel dimension for height might be useful or you could float the tools or put them in a separate tab. If you are processing one at a time there is a keyboard shortcut. Otherwise when running a batch there are some options too but personally I don't find it a big enough concern to make me seek a different option to simply opening and moving to the process button so I have not bothered with alternatives much.

11- Is there likely to be any support integration for the 'loupedeck' controller in future?

12- Is there a keyboard shortcut to show me a before and after adjustments? I want to see the unedited image next to the edited version. In lightroom you press Y to achieve this.

To see them side by side on screen just create a another variant edit of the image and edit one bu tleave the other in its original (or previous) state. Set the Viewer to display multiple images.

Alternatively Alt-Click the RESET icon if you just want an equivalent of the LR Y key.

    Thanks,
    G

    Hi SFA,

I appreciate you taking the time to respond! Thank you. That's cleared up most of my queries.

In answer to some of your points:

1- Is there a way to have the renaming counter always reset to 1 automatically?
    For what specific use case(s)?

When I'm renaming groups of images within one capture folder I have to manually reset the counter everytime I batch rename.

6- If I star rate a Jpg is there a way to match the rating to the duplicate raw?

No. Would you not be working on the RAW file anyway?

If a client is rating low res jpgs in another location it would be good to match them to the raws.

I'm always using session. I have gotten used to moving things all within C1. In Lightroom I used to move files and then click 'synchronize' to get everything matched up. So just a change of habit.

I think there will be people here who, more regularly than I, do the things you describe in the first two replies immediately above so I will leave them to comment.

As for the third - if you are using a Session and the "capture" folder - the session Capture folder or a virtual folder acting as the capture folder - is set to be a "Favourite" then C1 should simply see the files after they have been placed there.

Alternatively if you just navigate to the folder through the C1 System Folders route and open the containing folder they should appear (assuming compatible file types and sizes, etc.)

However I have noticed that, using Win 7, there are times when the files do not immediately appear in the current activity session without some prompting - basically going up a few directories and using that process to persuade Windows to refresh whatever it is keeping in cached memory. I think.

But in theory so ling as you have dropped the file into a "Favourite" folder (not an unfavourited sub-folder of a favourite folder - each folder is treated as individual) of which the sessions own "Capture" folder is one such Favourite, then the image should appear because the Session's database knows about the existence of that folder.

For clarity - a C1 session also allows one to pick an image in a folder somewhere, edit it and NOT associate it with the session in use bu NOT making its containing folder a Favourite. All edit work is, in any case, retained locally to the file edited and can be access by any session that happens to look in that folder or, indeed it can be imported to a catalogue complete with the edits already applied is so desired. I'm not suggesting you ought to use it that way but it may help to understand that such a thing is possible if you ever come across unexpected connections between session or catalogue and images and wonder how they may have happened.
