Sharpening in C1 Pro 3.7
I have used C1 for a while and have found sharpening to be ok, but still I have some questions. I have looked in the help files and searched for an explanation, but not found what I was looking for.
I use the default parameters for sharpening at amount 300 and threshold 2. I assume the algorithm is similar to USM in Photoshop. However in PS I also have a radius parameter. Canon recomends (as a starting point) in http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/EOS_Digital.pdf that the USM parameters for PS should be the above parameters. I take that the parameters for the 20D would be the same as for the 1D mk II (same resolution) to overcome the effect of the anti aliasing filter.
So the questions are:
1) What radius is C1 using and is it different for different cameras (depending on resolution)?
2) When upsampling is done, is sharpening the last action after upsampling before saving the picture? If yes, then is the radius modified according to the upsampling? If the radius is not modified then sharpening would depend on the amount of upsampling done, I would expect.
Thanks,
Hans

I wondered the same. Hopefully someone will come up with something.

Hello Phase One ! Can we have an answer to this question?
Thanks,

This a extremly hard question to answer of the plain fact that Phase One and Adobe is two different companies with two different products with two completely different set of algorithems.
Radius is about 1.2 this is the closest I can put it in Photoshop terms.
And sharpening is done post interpolation.0 -
Thanks for the answer, but you do not comment on my question about radius for the different cameras and if the radius is dependent on the resolution.
Can you explain how sharpening actually is done in C1, since you say it is so different from USM in Photoshop? The C1 help file does not give a clue.
Is there a plan to add a radius slider like in Photoshop?
Thanks,
Hans0
