    No way.
Unless you have checked "Pack as EIP" in Preferences.
Even then, your original file is contained in the EIP, which is nothing more than a zip-file.

Choose "unpack EIP" from the file menu and your original file is restored.

    regards!

Cap One has never, ever renamed a file without my say-so.

Assuming that there's not a fundamental design difference between (my) PC and the MAC builds; and Cap One Pro (which I assume you've downloaded) and Express, you can - as far as I'm aware - get images into Cap One two ways: via the Import dialogue, or simply by opening a folder via the Library tab.

    In Import:

    http://www.capture-the-moment.co.uk/tp/tfu29/upload/cap_one/cap_one_import.jpg

you can tell Cap One to create a new name on import, by (as shown here) adding name "tokens": but as you will see at left, the default is the original "image name".

    In the Library:

    http://www.capture-the-moment.co.uk/tp/tfu29/upload/cap_one/cap_one_library.jpg

the files simply open as they appear in the folder - no name change.

In either case (I use the "browse to folder" approach, but I've used Import too), I get this:

    http://www.capture-the-moment.co.uk/tp/tfu29/upload/cap_one/cap_one_file_name.jpg

Cap One doesn't rename my files unless I've told it to, and I can't believe that the MAC version would be so different.

So can you confirm how you got the files into Cap One, Bors? And (if via Import) what naming convention the dialogue shows as per the first image?

I'm in shock, and have wasted a fair bit of time hunting down this whole EIP concept.

    Phase One, please pay attention.

Bors, welcome to the forum and the world of Capture One. It seems that you have packed (probably unintentionally) your raw files to EIP. If you start with new software, unexpected and unintentional actions seems to take place. It happens to me al the time with new software. No big deal as long as you are aware of it.

Capture One allows you to pack on import or capturing (when working tethered) but this is NEVER the default. It must be set by the user. You can also manually pack/unpack any image file manually afterwards. Packing to EIP is great is you like to transfer an image file with adjustments to another disk or computer.
An EIP file is a container that zipped the original raw file (untouched) with the settings files. You can unpack EIP without any affect to the raw file's contents or Capture One's adjustments.

To have EIP work the way you like it, go to the Preferences, Image tab, EIP Packing section and set both checkboxes to your liking.

I can assure you there is no violation of any rule here, no harm, just confusion. Hope this helps and you'll enjoy using Capture One.

The trial has expired so I am unable to verify settings. I am fairly certain that I did not go into Preferences for software I haven't used for years and change arbitrary settings on a function I didn't know existed. Accidents happen, but this is pretty specific.

C1 has never changed file names Canon or otherwise on any of the 12TB of files I have in my archive. Yes I am on a Mac.

Capture One has had its share of bugs over the years but it has never ever renamed source files automatically. You must have inadvertently done something. There is a bit of a learning curve coming from other workflows.
