P45 files quality - C1s lack of detail
One of the most important reasons of buying P45 was the fact that C1 was to deliver the best quality files from what 39 Mpixel Kodak chip can deliver .
Now I'm not sure about this anymore .
I*ve read this thread on RGalbraith forum
http://forums.robgalbraith.com/showflat ... e=0#418002
and have been experiencing clearly much more detail on P 45 files using
Raw Developer then C1 .
In comparison Capture give slightly mushy, a bit \" noise supressed \"
\" digital\" look .
I have lowered noise setting to minimum in C1 anyway .
And have been tweekig around settings .
Still there is difference to RD favour .
So my question is .
As a P45 owner - do I hope for improvement in files quality in next C1 release
any time soon .
Or do I change my workflow towards Raw Developer ?

It is exactly the same with my P30. I complained long ago in this forum about the strange effect on fabric, it looked out of focus, but wasn't.
I did not get any good answers.
I showed the file to a PhaseOne person in Birmingham, getting the answer that It \"should not look like that\" but he could not explain it. He supported my theory that it was software related.
And now this other RAW developer confirms my theory, that I should be able to get more detail from my expensive P30 back.
The least I can say is that Phase One have to get their act together and deliver the quality we can expect from a expensive High end back...0 -
Awfully quiet about this... 0 -
Is that occured in H25 too? or just the newer P series... 0 -
I've tested every back there is also canon 1dsmk2, have also found on the p45 it does strange things to skin where there is not much in the way of contrast definition,it almost looks out of focus, I personally think its a chip/back problem.
The 22mp sinar back looked better up ressed in photoshop to get the same file size, it looked the most like film.
Thanks

Have you contacted your dealer regarding theese issues ? I work for the swedish distrubutor and I haven't heard anything about this.0 -
Why should I ?
I have contacted PhaseOne about this, here on this Forum, at a trade fair in Birmingham and via support.
Since RAW develop program gives me sharper results, I assume it is software related and that P1 WILL fix this. Otherwise they will have a \"enemy for life\".
I bought P1 because I was happy with the results I have gotten with H20, sharp and crisp pictures, always. But that is not the case any longer...0 -
Not sure if you read the release notes on 3.7.4 that came out yesterday but there is this one line in the 'Solved Issues' section:
• The reference point (zero) on the Noise Suppression slider has been changed to include more details. Please note that in this position less noise in the image will be suppressed.
Perhaps tthis will improve your problem?0 -
I hope it will solve our problem, not IMPROVE it... 😉 0 -
We are working on something at the moment.
Just wanted to say this so you do not think we ignore your input.0 -
Sorry for the late response.
As Darko points out we have fine tuned the Noise Suppression slider a bit for the 3.7.4 release. This should reveal even more details in the image than what you have earlier been able to get on your Phase One files. I advise you to try that out.
Let me just clarify that delivering the best image quality is our top most priority, period!
Parallel with Capture One 3.7.x we have for some time been working on Capture One 4. For Capture One 4 we have a number of focus areas (of course highly dictated by our customers). For image processing we have the following three major focus areas:
- Improving image quality for Digital Backs
- Reduce processing time by a factor of 3
- General Image Quality improvements and tools
At this stage I cannot go into any details regarding this, other than reveal that the issues that Jann Lipka refers to at Rob Galbraith’s forum, will be addressed.
Capture One 4 does currently not have an official release date, but is expected to be released later this year.

I would consider the ability to turn OFF all Noise Reduction to be a much needed improvement in Capture One Pro. Currently in C1, Sharpening can be disabled, giving you the option to use preferred/alternate sharpening tools. Noise Redustion should follow this lead. Noise Ninja or similarly dedicated noise removal programs can be used after C1 conversion.
Images converted with RAW Developer do have better detail and they have a much more tolerable \"grainy style\" noise appearance. The noise removal function of RDv can be disabled, giving you the option of taking advantage of a dedicated noise removal application. RAW Developer's sharpening gives more pleasing results than C1, RDv has better controls, and you can view the entire image (fairly quickly) at 100% while you make sharpening adjustments (not limited to a FOCUS window).
C1 has a more polished and intuitive interface, better workflow, and asset management. On the other hand, out of RAW Developer (except for poor default input profile color accuracy) you get images with a noticeable improvement over C1, and much better, faster customer service with RAW Developer.
Each of these applications has advantages and disadvantages over the other -- it would be great if we could get the best of both worlds.0 -
Can I ask what is RAW Developer? Thank you. 0 -
