Yeah, your .cocatalog file stores previews of the images and database information. If you open it and the full size images are missing, you'll be able to work with the previews but it will say they're "offline". Once you return the file back to the regular location, it should just see them again without running any sync/import/export scripts. At least, that's how it works when you use "referenced" images. Might be different if images are stored inside the catalog.

    Thanks for your reply.

In the meantime, I have been working a bit on this and I would like to comment:
Indeed, all the database information is contained in the *.cocatalog file. Therefore it is possible to simply copy this file back and forth between computers to transfer keywords, user collections, tags, ratings etc.
The previews however, are not contained in the cocatalog File, but are located in the "Cache" subfolder. If I am not mistaken, Capture One generates 2 files in the Cache subfolder per image, a tiny one and bigger one - probably a thumbnail and a preview jpg (in the size specified under Preferences).
This means that each time new images are imported into the catalog (home PC), one has to copy over the entire catalog folder, which is slightly annoying because copying so many files takes time. A somewhat smarter possibility would be to use a third party file synchronization software to add only the newly generated previews to the notebook.
This is not great, but I think an OK amount of hassle.
FYI, you can open the catalog after having copied only the cocatalog file (without the subfolders), but you will only see black boxes with large question marks.

P.S.: Im talking about Capture One Pro 9.2 on a Windows machine. Images are referenced.
