This is such a simple question I am probably setting myself up to get flamed, but here goes anyway.
FWIW I did read the help file and did a search and came across some threads that were regarding more advanced options and I couldn't tell from them whether or not what I was wanting was even possible.
I did run across one help article that was either for v 6 or for Mac as the options for creating a custom renaming recipe don't seem to be available on my v5 for Windows.
When using v 3.7 and earlier I would do this outside of C1 but obviously now after one has done all the corrections to exposure, cropping, etc. if one renames outside C1, these are all lost.
So here goes-I have a folder of 199 images from a wedding that I initially renumbered outside of C1 from 0001.crw to 0199.crw.
I made all my corrections and made a set of proofs from them. After that, the client wanted them in a proof portfolio with the images from the rehearsal dinner so I renumbered the proofs
outside C1 from 0187.jpg to 0385.jpg.
Now they have placed an order and I realized I screwed up as the raws are still 0001 to 0199. How can I batch rename them in C1 to 0187.crw to 0385.crw? I have them all selected and right click, I can choose Batch Renaming and under Format>there is no choice for just Image Name, just variations that include Job Names, and they all start at 0001; I see no way to set the first image number to 0187.

Unless there is a new hidden feature in v6.2, no, you cannot renumber the sequence within Capture One. I tried to wait until the very end of my adjustments before using the batch rename feature in CO. Then on my system, unless I immediately close & restart CO, the program will lock up with no warning.
There are many 3rd party renaming programs that can do what you want. Just be sure to also rename your adjustment files (*.cos) in your CaptureOne\Settings50 folder with the same name. You may also have to rename any *.lcc files manually.

I never used the batch rename so I had to look it up.
Yes, you can batch rename in Capture One with the counter starting from a given value. I did this both in CO 5.2.1 and 6.2. Note that 6.2 does have an extra feature in this tool but it does not apply here.
After you selected the images and open the Batch Rename tool, you open the tool's menu from the tool's triangle at the right in the tool's title bar. You will be in particular interested in the 'Set Batch Rename Counter...' option.0 -
While you can reset the counter to 1 or any other starting number, it will not alter the sequence number in your original filename. CO has no way of knowing what part of the filename is the sequence number. Is it in the middle or end of the filename as in "110523-#### Hawaii Pics" or "110523 Hawaii Pics ####"? With my third-party renamer I can tell it which characters to replace, whereas CO adds a new sequence to the beginning or end of the current filename. You could create a completely new name using CO with an updated sequence, but then you lose the original name. I like keeping my camera's original number at the end of my filenames, such as "110523-#### Hawaii Pics_PNR31061." 0 -
Hi Coach2, you are right in your explanation but that was not the OP's question. I believe that in the suggested scenario in which he already renamed with Capture One by the way, he can rename again with a manual set starting number for the sequence. And that was exactly his question. And that will rename the adjacent files with his adjustments too. 0 -
Thanks all. Got 'er done! First I selected all images. Then right clicked the first image to bring up the Batch Rename tool. Selected Job Name and 4 digit counter in the Format box, highlighted the default name that was in the Job name box, deleted it and left that box blank. Then I left clicked on the small triangle on the Batch Renaming tool box,selected Set Batch Rename Counter, entered 0187 in that field, and it did work, sort of . Once I clicked rename, for the first 13 images, I got an error box saying it could not rename 0001 because an image with that number already exited, which I closed, then another box saying it would not renamed 0002 because an image with that number already existed, etc through the first 13. Then it took off with the 14th image and renamed the rest. Fortunately when it got to it, it renamed it 0200 and the rest in sequence. Then again fortunately I was able to go back and select only the first 13, reset the counter to 0187 and it named all the remaining 13 correctly.
