Where are Previews stored when viewing Session from DVD
I archive sessions to dvds after trashing thumbnails and previews. When I look at the session from the dvd, phase recreates these files. Since dvd is read only, where does PhaseOne store these previews, and are they trashed when I quit the program, or am I storing 100's of megs of files that I can't remove?

Unfortunately, Spotlight can't search invisible files. I think Phase is hiding these in some .TEMPORARY folder somewhere. I would guess they would get trashed, but I've had my drives fill up before, so I want to know where to go to empty these.
I've tried searching using Terminal, but no luck as of yet. (my command line skills are weak at best.)

Intriguing topic. I don't have a CD/DVD with images at hand (not at home, traveling) but maybe I will try to mimic it with a memory card in Read-Only mode (write protected) later.
Maybe it helps you to show hidden files in the Finder with the following Terminal commands:# defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
# KillAll Finder
and set it back with# defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
# KillAll Finder
Be careful with what you delete or change while in this mode. There are tools that do the same too.0 -

In this situation, it looks as though PhaseOne might be storing all previews and thumbnails in RAM. (and swapping out as necessary.) I used your hidden files command and couldn't find any new files created with names similar to the captures. I'll test some more, but it seems that if Phase is creating files under these circumstances, it isn't naming them with the normal conventions.
I'm going to do some more tests, and also hope a Phase tech reads this and just tells me what's going on under the hood!

Sorry, I forgot to say that I was watching both Phase and Activity Monitor during my tests, and saw that as I moved through images, occasionally a file that had a thumbnail would flip and then re-orient itself as I scrolled through images. Moments later others would do the same. This leads me to believe that they are in RAM and being swapped in and out. Phase was also using 1.5G of memory as I was just flipping from image to image.

I found the location where CO3.x stores image settings, thumbnails and previews from read-only media. I also found out that all files are deleted when you log off (or shut down the computer).
To see it with your own eyes, this is the file location, which can be viewed with Terminal or Finder with the hidden folders option set as described. Three subfolders are created in /Capture%20One%20Settings//private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporyItems/Capture One Settings/file:/localhost/Volumes/NO%20NAME/DCIM/100LEICA/Capture%20One%20Settings/..
../ImageSettings
../Previews
../Thumbnails
Note1: folders.501 is named after the user (first user created on computer is 501, next 502 etc.)
Note2: the folders NO%20NAME/DCIM/100LEICA are the volume name and path of the read-only media. I used a SD memory card from my Leica locked in RO mode.
Note3: when you log off all folders are removed below /folders.501
Note4: when you shutdown /folder.501 is also deleted.0 -

You're the man! Thanks for your help, and It's good to know what's going on. Because I'm on a system that gets a lot of use and almost never is restarted, I've run into a problem with this a couple of times.
I know restarting is a good practice to keep things running smoothly, but when going through 10 dvds to recover a few files, It's nice to now the best way of dealing with the consequences.
I really appreciate your help, and hope at least that the mystery solving was enjoyable for you. I know I get a kick out of solving one; this just had me stumpped!
