Media Pro crashes when shutting down
Hello Everyone,
I been have trialling Media Pro and it usually fails to shut down properly. Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) reports an application error and Media Pro opens a window inviting me to send an error report to Phase One. In normal operation I have not yet had any problems.
I found a reference on-line to a similar fault for the older Microsoft version of this application. It said that closing large catalogues whilst NOT connected to a network was a possible cause. I'm not connected to a network so I've tried saving and closing my catalogue a minute or two before closing the application. This does seem to help a little. It does now shut down cleanly sometimes, but most of the time it still fails.
My catalogue has nearly 22,000 files and its size is about 200MB.
I quite like what I've seen of Media Pro so far but this crashing will be a deal breaker for me if it can't be fixed. I would be too worried about my catalogues becoming corrupted during the crashes.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have any ideas?
Best regards
Meredith

Hello from France.
The problem you talk about is not a problem : your catalog(s) will no be corrupted. Just try to reopen it(them).
You are right, the same problem exists with Expression Media, but I never found a catalog corrupted. (By the way, as Roelof said in an other post, there is no need to use MP 1.2 instead of EM 2 if you don't use Capture One).0 -
It is a crash, even if it only occurs during program exit. If you look into the OS error logs you will see that the processor has thrown an exception. This is due to a bug in the software. A typical cause of this type of crash is the software trying to access non-existant memory.
Expression Media did the same thing back when Microsoft owned the software. It's sad that Phase One haven't bothered to fix it, even though it's such a prevalent and long standing problem.
Has anyone out there worked out why this happens or come up with a workaround to stop it happening?0 -
You're right, it is a crash ; I meaned that it has no bad consequences on catalogs.
I don't know if a solution exists. Actually, probably not.
(P.S.: for me, I dont' care because I use EM 2 only for cataloging my slides scans ; when the scanning process will be finished, in a few days, I'll uninstall EM 2. For cataloging, I prefer now IDimager).0 -
Sadly, Idimager is not the sunny side of the street neither. I used it awhile: somehow complicated and cluttered interface but I learned to use it. Then I discovered that it trashes Olympus Maker Notes...
After that I looked after EM2 and find it far easier to use and it have not trashed Maker Notes for any of my files.
Still hope PhaseOne can correct these kind of bugs some time (hopefully soon)...

Of course not... Say it works fine for me and I like its interface.[quote="Tappari" wrote:

Agree, EM2 is easier to use. IDimager is clearly more difficult but also offers much more possibilities. For me, I never had any problem with Canon notes (but I only use .jpg files).[quote="Tappari" wrote:

I Hope too. But I don't believe... And Phase One will have to work to update MP. For instance, EM2 (and probably MP) can read Event tag from IPTC Extension properly, but cannot write this tag according to IPTC rules (in fact, EM uses its own schema instead of official IPTC one). Other example, several tags used in MP are obsolete. For a dam, I think that an important point is to follow official rules...0 -
HI
Mediapro also crashes very often (windows 7 64): sometimes when shutting down, sometimes when opened for more than a few minuts, and even when a catalog is open, and that I do nothing on the computer (also after a few minuts)!!!!!
When will Phaseone solve this problem?
