Getting to know CO9 is sometimes painful
First off, I most assuredly agree with those here, and on the LuLa CO forum, who have said that CO should not be judged by how it does things compared to Aperture or Lightroom. CO is a separate program, written by a different team, with different objectives, priorities and approaches. I'm fine with that.
And I also agree with many commenters that CO gets me to a better starting place with a RAW image than do either Ap or Lr. That lets me get to the adjustment end point faster. But I also agree that I can get a RAW image in Lr to pretty much the same place as in CO, given a little more time.
Unfortunately I've been hitting enough quirks, missing features, and perhaps bugs with CO that the total time from import to output isn't much different. ☹️
Right now, my pain points are these:
1) CO just won't import PSD or TIFF images exported from Affinity Photo. If I can dump Lr, I'd like to be able to dump Ps, too.
2) CO has no print/paper/profile presets so that these things have to be laboriously, and carefully, set each time a print is to be made.
3) When importing RAW files previously used with Lr and having Lr keywords applied, CO does some wild things with the keywords when they are imported. New keywords end up in the root of the keyword library even if there are existing, matching keywords, already in the keyword library, but at another point in the hierarchy. Those new keywords are imported to the root as soon as a folder of images is selected in the import dialog and remain there even if no images are actually imported. If only one image is imported, the keywords from all the images in that folder are added anyway.
4) I can't stack different images from a series in the CO browser. I can't even stack variants of the same image if I'm not browsing an album - if I browse a folder of referenced images, a CO project, or even the All Images collection, the collapse/expand icons disappear.
5) Metadata cannot be deleted from IPTC fields in the metadata tool. It looks like it has been when I tab out of the field, but when I return to that image, the metadata is back. This happens in v9.0.1 with metadata syncing on or off.
There are so many things that I like better about CO than Lr that I'm not prepared to give up on it yet. But boy can it be frustrating. Sometimes I just have to change gears and go on to do something else to avoid the temptation to just "do it in Lr."

Interesting that it won't import Affinity Photo Tiffs.
The same occurs with On1 Photos 10, won't import them, I have to roundtrip via PS to get them to register.0 -
This is because of alpha channel that Affinity saves in tiffs, CO is not recognising them. Try to save without alpha channels 0 -

The odd thing is that if I just drag an Affinity Photos TIFF into a session folder, it works fine. It's just the import routine that is "broken."0
