D800 not tethered
I've had to replace my MBP, and since it's running Yosemite, I've ungraded to 8.0.2.
Now my D800 won't tether at all. I've used two different cords. It also still works on my older MBP.
Doesn't 8.0.2 support D800 tethering?

There is a lot of USB issues with MacBooks. Not just D800 users. It is well documented on the internet.
I phones not charging, ports not working at all.......etc...........
Solutions range from SMC + Pram reset to sending the culprit back into Apple.
Tether Tools talks a lot about these issues too. All related to power. Super high speed USB3 can handle more power but also it needs more power.
But starting with good cables avoids some of these issues. It is best to work with software developers and not just complain.
I have resolved my issues. If someone can't live with these solutions, or work on solving the issues through the recognized channels then it is unfortunate.0 -
Tether Tools has a new product out which looks promising.
But first here is a link which talks about USB3 isses:

The new product Tether Boost Core Controller coupled with their Rock Solid External Power Bank:

Received the gear from Tether Tools.
Lightweight
Small
Inexpensive
Easy to use on location
Not needed in the studio as I use a Powered Belkin Thunderbolt Dock.
But great for location away from power sources. Just don't try the top port of the Tether Boost USB3.0 4 Port Core Controller. Yes it has 4 ports and when you are connected a corresponding blue indicator number lights up. Port #2 [Top] does not light up and does not connect to the D800 via the cable from my Lockport adapter. The other 3 ports do connect.
The top port does connect an external Super High Speed external spinning drive though...Strange.0
