Ratings and settings
Hello, I am a DigiTech and Photo Assistant in Chicago and have a couple questions about DNG support in C1v6
So I shoot tethered with my d800, and my clients shoot tethered with a plethora of cameras, from 5dm2, to h25 and IQ180 backs. These all come in as the native raw file format: NEF, CR2, IIQ/TIF and personally I much prefer to archive and work off of a DNG file, smaller files, don't have to worry about file compatability later, bla bla bla. So, I've noticed C1v6 has no issues with an externally converted dngv7.1 file (I use the adobe stand alone dng converter) however it doesn't recognize the downres'ed raw files that dng7.1 now supports, is this on the books as a future feature?
and on to my real and important question. So during a shoot I am not converting to DNG's, we shoot, and rate and stuff as the client is there and making their approvals, and then after the fact I convert and archive. However in this process C1 loses all the ratings, color tags, etc that we've made. So is there a way to apply the c1 cache folder to the new dng's globally? or should i be converting to dng's in C1 (will that maintain my ratings and settings? i.e. write an xmp file to go along with these files) that I can then open back up in C1?
Final workflow: All global changes, base color, and sharpening done in C1, exported as a 16bit tif, retouching and more done in PS6, saved as a psd file, a flattened 8bit tiff, and a downresed jpg for email/web use. original exported tiff is deleted, as are reject files (after awhile)
if this doesn't make sence let me know 😜

No, CO6 does not support an .xmp for adjustments like Adobe ACR.
What makes sense in my book is that you choose between one out of two choices for workflow:
- you stick entirely to Adobe ACR based products and create a DNG workflow
- you stick entirely to the native raw format and use CO6; CO6 creates best quality output from native raw
Don't mix workflows, it does not bring you any real benefit in the end.0
