Retina display
PhaseOne, are you working on a version of C1 pro that will support the Retina display? Any idea when it will be released, roughly?
Are there any users here that have a Macbook Pro Retina, and have hardware calibrated the screen? Any issues? I'd like to hear your experience.

By default Capture One will be working out of the box.
If additional optimization will be required we can not answer just yet as we, just like many others are waiting for delivery of this new fine piece of hardware.0 -
Hi Ulf,
Thanks for your fast reply. I have no doubt C1 will work, but the photos will look pixelated because C1 doesn't support the higher resolution and the OS then uses pixel doubling. Check out this article by OWC .
Adobe has already announced it's working on an update voor Photoshop CS6, so I hope C1 will follow.0 -
Hi Ulf
Quite a few of us are wondering about this, your earliest reply would be most useful as a few people i've discussed it with are weighing up options that include the last of refurb 17inch machines which are in short supply (including myself).
What to do?
Regards

yes
just we just need an answer like
"we plan to optimize C1 for retina as soon as we can"
or "we have much others priority and it'll come in a long time from now"
so we can decide if it's worth investing in such a hardware
because if all software needs one year to be up to date it's better to buy next generation in 12-18 month.
thanks for giving us a better view on your plans.0 -
I'll just add my voice to say I'm very interested in the Mac Retina display for use with Capture One pro and Media Pro. So would love to have this programs a higher res

i just get my retina yesterday and install C1 and i see no problems? What are you talking about PIXELING? I use the native resolution and no scaling or something else....

Hi Eric,
Maybe you can share a screen dump with us. Shift+Cmd+3 creates a screen dump. I suggest you zip it and upload it to a transfer service and post a link. I think you will do a lot of users here a great favor. Thanks a lot in advance.0 -
ok all,
here is the link with 2 screenshots. One from CS6 and one of C1

Thanks a lot Eric! On my Eizo, they DO look pixelated (only the image, not the text of the GUI). But I noticed the resolution of your screenshots is 3840x2400 instead of the Retina native 2880x1800 (or 1,33x larger linear), so maybe that's the cause. 0 -
i will check this after my dinner. i used shift + cmd + 3 to do the screenshot 0 -
i just redo the screenshot and yes its 3840 x 2400 pixel or 67,47 x 42,34 cm with 143,993 DPI ... strange.... 0 -
Just found this (possibly dodgy) way to run Retina display in full 2880x1800 resolution: . I guess menu commands will be way too small for anyone without 20/20 eyesight to read though 😉
And another blog about gamut and calibration: . He states the Retina can be perfectly calibrated (it has one less layer of glass than standard screens) and has a 99% sRGB gamut (previous MacBook Pro had only 71% sRGB). If that's the case (no way to verify his claims now) the retina display may be the way to go, even if we have to wait for apps to be updated and the retina is really expensive with 16gb memory and 768gb flash storage.0 -
OMG i just try this software and run my display in real and full 2880x1800 pixel.... THIS IS AMAZING 😊 0 -
do you know some good page to upload the some high-res screenshot?

I checked out a MBP Retina today at the Apple store with C1. At the standard 'best-for-retina-setting (in System Prefs > Display), there was clear pixelation. But at the highest resolution, the pixelated view had disappeared. Mind you, this isn't even full 2880x1800. I know I'm going for the Retina! 0 -
oK here we go with c1

OMG, I never thought that this might be a problem. I just ordered a new MacBook with Retina display. Hopefully it will be a solved issue by the time it arrives. 0 -

Hi,
I can confirm with C1 6.4.2 and a Macbook Pro with Retina display you will see soft images at 'Fit' size and 100% view, and some strange edge artifacts as well, I wouldn't recommend at this stage, as it seems it is not possible to check focus.

Good to know. Thanks 0 -
Strange silence on support for the Retina. I just signed up to check out support before trying the software for my D800e but I will need to stay with Aperture for a while. I've found that its the only software supported on Retina which is very disturbing since I don't like Aperture.
I think I will try on my windows machine but I do hope development come up with something soon as I dont intend to run different sw on my mac and windows machines.0 -
hi all,
i would like to update my location setting with a retina mbp.
i disagreed the lack of 17" but, ok, if they don't sell enough...but what i realized reading your posts about retina is that capture one pro is not ready for this resolution: any idea about WHEN it will be ready? or if it will never be ready?
i work as digital tech and to check focus properly is one of the reasons to be on set, and also
for a little enterprise like mine to spend 3000 euro is something to think about!
thanks in advance

Unfortunately we do not release ETA's on the forum. And the idea of "never" seems highly unlikely 😉0 -

Yes, i confirm that the problem of pixelation is clearly visible at the standard "best for retina" and the problem is less important at the highest resolution proposed by Apple ("More space" 1920x1200). And i think we can work with this resolution. But the problem of pixelation totally disappear with the resolution of 2880x1880 (it's normal because in this resolution, one pixel = one pixel). The problem is we need a script to have this resolution and every thing is very very small.
So i think that C1 is usable on macbook pro with retina display but only in 1920x1200! But, for a perfect picture, 2880x1880 is better!
I hope that phase one will develop an update to have a retina interface and pictures displayed pixel by pixel. Like Aperture today, but i don't like Aperture... 😕0 -
you're right paul, i apologise for my "when":
i was just upset, some time happens!
i'm always very pleased about this forum and i didn't want to put on anyone's shoulder this new trouble about our work and money.
thanks to everybody!
