Do you use external disks to load from?

No all SATAII drives direct off motherboard.

OK, here's an update, I ran the files that c14Pro wouldn't read through Adobe's DNG converter and output them to a separate folders and the files are now readable in C14Pro. I think C14pro is either corrupting the embedded jpegs or there's an issue reading the original embedded jpegs. Well at least i have backups and alternative software.
This C14pro release feel too buggy for my liking!

    What camera are using?

    Paul,
Mixture of raw and dngs from 10D, 20D, 5D, 1D MkIII, 1DMkIIn and Ricoh GRDII.

Funny thing is, I'm getting the same problem with revised images. What's more one minute I can see/edit them and the next session they throw the "failed to load images" error. I thought it might be memory issues, but have run memtest with no errors.

I don't think its the files themselves, I now believe it the C14Pro database, perhaps cross linking / corrupting cached data.

You already moved or removed the *.col and *.col45 files? (you can see I am cracking my head on this 😉 )

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks!

I've tried everything, removed cols etc. Its got to be internal database/cache indexing issues.

I can be working away fine on a file and the next session its failed to load.

I do develop/use my own ICC profiles, so perhaps switching profiles is causing the corruption. I'm "clutching at straws now". But perhaps its not registering the fact that some images may have ICC profiles that no longer exist (deleted or updated) and C14Pro isn't clearing out the record entry in the database.

Although, if I delete all traces of C14Pro then surely nothing exists!

Likewise, why does it not do it in the non pro version.....yep i'm convinced its a C14Pro code/database flaw!

    John,
ICC profiles, of course, how could I forget! CO 4.x can be rather picky on this. Please try with factory delivered profiles, both at input (camera) as well as output side (sRGB or AdobeRGB or that sort). And oh yes, your monitor profile. Maybe you have a calibrated monitor, if yes, please switch back to a standard sRGB profile for that matter.

Regarding your internal database thesis: it is the *.col* file. Since you removed that one, you can rule that out, I think, as a cause.

Since CO 4.5.x had some major rework done since 4.0/4.1, a few people report problems with CO 4.5 which does not occur in 4.1 (and vice versa by the way).

OK, but if the images wont load how do you set the standard profiles for them?

Also, I use a wide gamut NEC 2690 with spectraview II, hardware calibrated, using sRGB as the monitor default profile is not an option, as the colours go crazy.

When you remove the *.col45 file, the program will not load the current files selected.
I understand that the calibrated monitor profile is needed, but for sake of troubleshooting you could try sRGB once, I suggest.

    Hi Paul,

This is a real head banger!

I've tried ever which way, sometimes the images load and then the next session they disappear.

I've copied them to other folders, renamed them, dng converted them, removed cols, changed monitor to sRGB, deleted all custom ICC profiles and there is no consistency or other single reason for it. They load in C14 (non pro), CS4, Silkypix, LR etc without a problem. The only common denominator is C14Pro!

Well Asia support got back to me at midnight last night, they obviously didn't read my case properly, as I got the standard "what version are you using" question. Would you believe it?, Its all in the support ticket!

I've since pointed them into this thread as not to go through hoops repeating myself. I can see a long drawn out, no end in sight kinda relationship building here! Perhaps, I should get a refund?

    Hi John,
Thanks for the feedback, I think you already did put a huge amount of effort in trying to get your finger on what's happening. To help Asia support <grin>, I now come up with the idea of looking at interference of other programs. As you might probably now, you can start your Windows machine in a stripped down mode (Safe Mode) or an more fine grained approach through MSINFO. Any experience with that. Please let me know if your want to go down that road on/or you need any assistance before I elaborate to much.

I really like C14's output but this "image load error" continues to plague me.

I opened a support ticket on the 6th December and, outlined the problem and waited for response, I was asked to be more specific regarding versions I was using and pointed the Support guy into this thread.

I was again asked what versions I was using and provided actual numbers, I also provided detailed error messages on two occasions and was again asked to confirm what versions I was using along with a number of log files.

I replied on the 11th December with all and sundry and haven't heard a thing since. I was also scorned by the Support Guy for being non-constructive and attacking Support on the forum (this thread).

Furthermore, I raised a case back in May asking whether support for the Ricoh GRD II would be available. I was told "we are preparing for future support of Ricoh cameras", only for the case to be closed with a comment "I am sure that somewhere on the internet there will be customized profiles for the GRD II that would be acceptable for you."

To be honest, I'm totally bewildered with the Phase One's support. They seem so defensive and arrogant to paying customers. Perhaps, if I had Invested £20k in a digital back I might get better treatment....?

But consider this, Capture One 4 Pro is probably the most expensive Raw converter on the market and IMO they really need to sort their Customer services in order to justify this premium.

Anecdotally, I had a two year old Spectrocolorimeter that failed this week (yes out of warranty), one email to Datacolor's support had them issue me with a RMA number with a covering email stating that they would test and if found to be defective it would be replaced free of charge...Now that's service!

Sorry to rant, but Phase One need to get their act together!

Just a thought....I'm as confused as support must be...but it looks as though you had a working version of V4 for a while and then upgraded to Pro very recently...correct?

If so, how did you upgrade to/then remove Pro? By that, did you uninstall V4 with the windows app...or just remove V4? Or did you install 4.5.1 over the existing version?....if you recall......

    Hi John,

I deactivated and totally removed v4.5.1 non pro, cleaned all folders out and regcleaned all traces of it, before installing the 4.5.1 pro version and activating.
I even removed all non pro settings folders within image folders. So in theory there should be no trace of 4.5.1. Perhaps the image files are corrupt, but why can I open them in all other raw converters?

    Thanks for your input.

Well I never, the "failed to image" errors have completely disappeared in v4.6! All files are now readable. 😄

What's more it creates thumbnails and renders faster!

I just shot 30 images network to my work computer, I imported in LW (for printing) I can see the thumbnail but has ? on the thumbnail, all the images are in the folder. also converted to DNG file and that also has ? and can't open it, only in the thumbnail.

Camera make and model? Did it work with previous raw files? DNG conversion with which tool and conversion settings?

D3 Nef files , never had a problem before in LW, I used Camera Control Pro 2 and Set the folder to read with Capture one networking it and work good, Also I find the camera setting does not work in Capture pro, all my images are 2 stops over exposed, light meter says f8 and have to set it at 11

I am sorry I do not understand your workflow from your description. BTW (By the way) no idea what LW is. Apologize for my ignorance.

Simple question: you make a NEF file with your D3 (no cable, no strings attached <grin>). Download it to your computer with a card reader. Can you open it with CO 4.6 or do you get the question mark in the thumbnail? If question mark, try change your NEF settings like compression (do not compress) or other settings.

If this works, you can sort out other issues like LW, CCP2 and so on. Hope this is helpful for you. I prefer to one step at a time.

I made 6 images on the D3 on the CF card then had CP import the images then import the image into LR and work fine...

  • Normand2
I just shot 6 more images (not networking) and imported the images to LR and it works, I quest the networking dosn't work to well.
If I remember Mark III had the same networking problem.

I also tried Bibble Pro and that work well in networking in LR.

If you talk about 'networking' do you have the camera connected over USB, with an Ethernet connection or wireless?

    Update
    In the (Next Capture Naming)
I put a name in it seem to work now, (they need to change that so we have and option)
When I took out the untitled and just left the numbers that when the error happen,
When I added a name and tried it 3 times and it works, Now if you can get the camera
setting to work that would be great.... at least the Set and the Balance...
