Can't get keywords to "stick"

I've got a 1.6g catalog ... and am trying to "annotate" files (add keywords) and though I click on the check-mark after typing in the new keyword, or selecting one from the drop-down list, I get no pop-up dialog box like the MS EM2 manual says I should, and the box showing files with each current keyword doesn't change numbers. When I leave the folder and come back, there's no keyword listed for the files.

The files I'm working on right now are simple jpegs and Fuji S3/S5 raf's, fwiw ...

  Is this problem stil present Neil?
  Did you know that you can easy add keywords to an image in the info pane?
  Under 'Keyword' you can put in one keyword and after hitting TAB you can add another.
  Leaving the image is sufficient for saving the data.
  To bring the altering in the image itself, you have to synchronize (Action/Sync annotations/Export annotations to original files')

  Thanks, I'll try your suggestions. I would add a keyword, leave the image/folder ... and come back and it wasn't there. So I assumed one had to check something or hit enter or whatnot ... but I'll try this, hitting "tab" before leaving it ...
