Filter by Managed and Reference files in Catalogs ?
I'm trying to cull 16 years of digital images held in around 250 C1 Sessions into a single "Archive" catalog in C1.
The early years are easy with relatively few small, mostly jpeg images. More recent years have many more images and these are mainly large RAW files. I have created a catalog for each year where the images are 'referenced' to the original sessions from that year. I then add each year's catalog as a collection in the Archive catalog and either delete images that I don't want to keep or move the keepers into the catalog as managed files. I then add these images to various collections. Along the way I sometimes lose sight of whether images in the collection are still referenced or have been moved into the Archive catalog and have become managed.
The question is whether there is any way separately to distinguish managed files from referenced files in the Archive catalog ? Obviously, I can eject the external drives holding the annual catalogs so that I get the question mark symbol for images that haven't been moved to the Archive catalog and are still 'referenced' but this is somewaht clumsy. These images can't be moved into the catalog while they have the 'question mark'.
The quantity and size of later years' images makes it impractical to move all the images to the archive catalog so I need to thin out the referenced files to leave a smaller number of files to be moved into the Archive catalog.
So the question is whether there is anyway to distinguish managed files from referenced files without ejecting the external drives.
Any thoughts very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Maybe this helps:
In the Library tool, there is a Folders section. It lists your drives and folders that you imported, but also a Catalog item at the top. This object - you can click on it - contains the managed images.0 -
Paul,
Thanks for this which I understand.
The problem is slightly different and mainly of my own making in that on occasions referenced images have been 'copied' into user collections before being moved into the catalog. In such cases the olny way that I have a found identify these images is to disconnect the external drive and light up the question mark symbol.
I have now modified my workflow. I had been making a single catalog for each year (referenced images) and imported that into the Archive catalog beofre culling and selecting keepers. That worked fine for the early years but baecame unwieldy in later years with some 10-15,000 images for the year. What I am now doing is culling at the 'Year Catalog" level and using a mixture of rating and color tags so that, for instance, all images moved from referenced to managed are tagged green beofre being moved. So I only move managed images into the 'ultimate' Archive catalog. The green tag on these images also identifies those that still need to be 'copied' to user collections.
What I would still like to find is a filter that selects on the basis of manged or referenced which would be a quicker and simpler way that a slightly clumsy workaround.
Thanks for your help.0
