splitting up a large catalog?

    I would copy the catalog 2 times, then delete two thirds of your images (remove reference) in each of the 3 catalogs.
    In any case make a backup of your catalog and adjustments prior to this.

    Thanks, I'm backed up to the hilt, but was hoping for something less brute-force perhaps. I'm gonna hang on until some of the other 9.1 issues are solved (e.g. really slow image import) and reconsider.

    I found a better answer from PhaseOne Support:

    Hello Peter, I would break the catalog up into three collections. Then each one can be exported as its own catalog. You right click on the collection in the library to see this option.

    This is much simpler than dupicating the entire catalog three times then deleting, for sure.

    Brilliant, thanks for sharing this one, because this means that an Smart Album could be used for the split.

    The exported catalogs would still reference the existing folder structure?
