Difference between NEF and DNG?
This is more out of curiosity:
Why is a DNG (7.1 made with DNG Converter 7.2) from my Nikon D800 being rendered differently than the native NEF. Even the "as shot" white balance shows a different value.
I tried C1's DNG profile as well as the NikonD800 profile. I would have expected that both DNG and NEF would be rendered equally.

This is basically the issue here. Both file formats are different and one is transferred or converted into the other. If you start from the assumption that they will never render the same result, you get a more realistic expectation.
No offence, one day you'll look through the DNG marketing. Enjoy your NEFs with Capture One and achieve amazing results no converted DNG can match. (I probably get flamed for that statement 😁 😁 😁 )0
