How to Delete a Session?
Hello everyone. Non-pro, just a dad who takes a lot of pictures and is an amateur hobbyist. I just started trialing Capture One 10 (windows 10) and am really excited about the opportunity Sessions has to add to my workflow. I've been able to create sessions just fine, I understand the four basic folders it creates and what they are used for, how to name the session, and how to export keepers. The only thing I cannot determine is how to delete the session once I'm done with it so the software does not keep it in its "recents" list.
In other words, I create a session called "Graduation" and work all the photos I import into the session. I then export the keepers, which I then import into my catalog (remember, I'm an amateur and my wife and I want to be able to search metadata across the years when we want to find something).
The think I cannot find, or at least is not intuitive to me, is that once I'm done with the session (which I do not want to keep any longer), how can I tell C1 to forget about it? Yes, I know I can delete the session folder and its subfolder from Windows Explorer, but when I do that, C1 keeps wanting to so me that in its recents list, jump list, whatever you want to call it.
Any tips on how others are deleting sessions so C1 no longer cares about them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

Why do you use sessions if you end up reimporting your final pictures into a catalog ? Simply import your original files to a user collection within the catalog and you'll save yourself the hassle of exporting/reimporting/deleting the session. 0 -
Yes, I could import directly into a catalog, like I've done all these years with Lightroom, but I was looking for a different flow to help me better track and organize things, especially when I get behind in post-processing. You see, with LR, I've always used referenced files (in folders by yyyy-mm) which are located on a NAS device because I am not the only one that uses those photos. The wife uses them for other projects as well.
Currently, after a shoot, I import the pics from an SD directly into my main LR catalog, letting LR copy them to the external HD referenced folder for all my photos (again, yyyy-mm). I have the import preset tag the photos with a red label so I know which ones I need to review, cull, process, and keyword. Rejects get a reject flag, selects get a green label. Rejects are then completely deleted. And yes, admittedly, the photos that remain are already referenced in the catalog and the folders naming formats we expect.
But because my job and family take up so much of my time, I get behind in the processing of the original/raw files. So I was hoping to leverage C1 sessions as a way to import photos as I shoot - for example, individual sporting/family events - within individual sessions, and come back to them later when time permits, with all photos being nicely tidy in different sessions with meaningful names, i.e. - Bulldogs vs Spartans, etc. For some reason, I just like the different folders a session provides, so when I'm interrupted and return 3 days later, I know exactly what I've so far trashed, selected, or still have to review. Then I can take just my selects and output them to my external HD under the appropriate yyyy-mm and not having to worry about cluttering them up with perhaps some missed un-reviewed pic that wasn't imported for some reason during the original SD card import.
And yes, I know I could do all that using temp folders with labels, colors, etc., and I know I have additional steps to export/import them into a C1 catalog, but the sessions idea just sounds pretty cool when it comes to initial organization. Since I'm not a professional, I do not have the volume, nor am I pressured by a clock or deadlines, so I'm not too concerned with having a couple extra steps, and they don't seem like that much hassle anyway.
So, I think, John, you are suggesting pretty much what I am doing with LR today, but using collections. I'll certainly consider that, and thank you.
If anyone has the answer to my original question, however, on how to delete and tell C1 to forget about sessions no longer needed, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks for reading.

Jim,
first off I don't understand well the reasons for operating LR and C1 in parallel. But this has no direct relation to your main question.
The Session file keeps track of the recently visited folders and files, as well as of some user definitions - in my case of definitions for three different output receipts (1: Full JPG, aRGB, 100%; 2: Medium JPG, sRGB, 80%, 2,700px on the long side; 3: Small JPG, sRGB, 60%, 1,600px on the long side, watermark).
I don't see a reason to delete this session file. Contrary, I want to keep those definitions. And the change to another (image) folder or drive can be simply done by entering C1's browser (Library; first tool top left on my screen) and browse to the desired location, doing the desired edits there, then browse to a different location, continue the work there. No need for new/specific/other session for that. It's just on re-opening C1 the "session" will attempt to get you back to the last visited location (if physically availabe). And even then there's no need to stay there.0 -
Michael,
I apologize, I guess I'm not making myself very clear on these posts. I was just trying to explain to John why sessions appealed to me. I do not intend on using both LR and C1. I'm just ready to make a change, not only for something fresh, but I really do like the way C1 implements its functionality (no separate modules, etc.). I have nothing against Adobe, but they seem to be headed to permanent subscriptions, and I want to get ahead of that curve as subscriptions do not appeal to me. Maybe LR will do away with standalone, maybe they won't, but its either wait until LR 7 is released or make the switch this summer while I have time to do it. I'm still trialing C1 and have many other tests to run (like printing), but it just seems like it makes my photos "pop" more than LR does. I'm not a professional, it just seems that way.
Your comments on the session files are noted, and really do make sense. I've also looked into using user collections instead of sessions as John recommended, and that seems to make sense as well. Learning is half the fun.
This seems like a great forum, with folks very willing to help. I expect as I will be posting several questions here as I go through my learning curve.
Good health to you, and thanks for reading.
