Making a Business Decision re C1v4
If you don't like the new version of C1 then explore other options that work for you and your business. It's obvious that the developers of version 4 didn't think that the workflow features that most of us valued was important enough to include in the newer version. We gave them our feedback in the Beta...the final version was released...and now it is what it is.
Over the years I have made it a practice not to become overly attached to camera equipment, software, or computer equipment simply because each is an evolving technology that is always subject to change. Sometimes the changes are good and sometimes they're not. What you need to prepare yourself for is the fact that changes could impact your business to the extent that quality suffers or costs increase due to addtional workflow processes.
I, like many others, am very disappointed in the lack of attention to the details of this new release. From image quality of the final output, to missing workflow features I valued in the past, to the absence of documentation. Maybe someday C1v.?? might be my tool of choice but for the moment I'm moving on to something else. I'm not interested in wasting any more of my valuable time pointing out the obvious only to have it ignored.
BTW.. I shoot over 200 events per year and process approxiamtely 300-400 images per event. I don't have the time to "make it work" or use multiple keyboard commands to get the job done right. v3.7 allows me to process RAW accurately and fast with common with the most logical workflow. That adds value to my product and controls cost which means more bottom line and happy clients. Phase One had their chance to corner the market of Raw Conversion with this upgrade. Take v3.7, include the new inteface look, add a straighten feature to the crop tool, add a spot removal tool for those sensor dust bunnies well all get from time to time and BAM.. you've made my day and given me something that improves my business.
My hope is that Phase One is listening and that we can look forward to a version 4.1 making the changes that most of us want. Until then, v3.7 and Lightroom 1.3 will be the coverters of choice in my shop.

I agree with everything you said. Lucky for you to be able to use 3.7. Those of us that bought new cameras are stuck with 4 and all of its work-arounds, sigh. 0
