Can Capture One 4 Do The Whole Job?

Hi All,

Just wondered if you think capture one 4 is good enough for doing basic editing ie curves levels sharpening etc as well as being a raw converter? Do you use capture one 4 just for white balance and exposure then open your tifs in another programme to do further editing?
would like to hear your thoughts.

  Your question is quite broad, and I guess the best answer is depends. Depends on your photo, and depends on what you as the photographer wants to achieve. As a RAW converter, I believe Capture One 4 is by far the best product available. I have tried other products, but the image quality of CO 4 still IMHO has the rest beat.
  
  Personally what I use CO 4 is to achieve the best possible image I can which includes WB, Sharpening, Noise, Levels, Curves, Exposure, Shadow, and Highlights. Again, it is a great product to do it all in. After I have processed the image, I bring it in to Photoshop for to fine tune and retouch the image. Sometimes I can't restore the shadow areas enough without effecting the rest of the image in CO, but Photoshop allows me to localize a problem areas of the photo. Photoshop also removes all the blemishes of my subjects face as well which most RAW converters don't do, nor should they really.

  Thank you for your reply, I have capture one 4 plus adobe elements. I have only had capture one 4 just a few days after using LE 3.7 as a raw converter for quite a long time, I have to admit that i only used LE for white balance and exposure using elements for the rest of the process, like you i am now going to try to use capture one 4 for most of the processing only using elements if i need to use layers or retouching, I must admit that i do like the look of capture one 4 up again'st my old LE...

  Elements is a great product. I gave it to my girl friend to and she loves it, also is quite easy to use. I have tried Lightroom, and always had problems in with detail shadow areas. After reading a current review, it seems the problem still has not been improved much. With Photoshop, Elements, and Lightroom all using the same engine, the problem spans throughout their product line.

  I toyed with the idea of getting lightroom but to be honest it is just to expensive for me, I could not warrant the price. I got capture one for as a free upgrade from LE and i am still using elements 5 but hey the programmes do all that i need from them and they did not break the bank either. Only take pics for mine and my familys pleasure and am very pleased with both programs..
