Larger boot drive
with the size of files from the new canons i need to replace my boot drive in my G4 tower. This is a processing machine only and runs only C1 and photoshop. and a few others.
I wish to have the max efficence. should i partision my drive and put 10.3.8 and apps in one partision ( the drive is 160 gigs) & images to the other partision, or should i not partistion the drive just let her rip????
C1 is my main program and i want it to be happy, fast and stable. marc

As a general rule, I do like to have my OS separate from my Data; if I want to reinstall the OS, I can completely erase my OS partition and install a new OS on it, and just leave the Data partition alone.
That being said, Apple doesn't provide you with an easy way to change the location of your home directory with Mac OS X. Mac OS X Server, on the other hand, does have the flexibility. By default, even if you have two separate partitions when you install Mac OS X, each user will have their home directory on the volume on which you install Mac OS X (the OS partition). You could use NetInfo Manager to move an individual user's home directory, but you are on your own for that.
Keep in mind that with a single 160GB drive, you will not get ANY performance increase by partitioning.
You will get a performance increase if you put in a second hard drive, but again, you have the default limitation of the home directory being on the boot drive.0 -
Thank you for the reply, i think the partision makes sense. i can also make my destination of my images go to the second partision. my main concern is the adding and deleting of images all the time, and the defraging of the drive. i also have a bad habit of puting stuff on my desktop. any work flow tips on a place to put everything you are working on? marc 0
