What is your PhaseOne CO version, Mac OS version, and 1Ds firmware version? It is hard to offer suggestions without all the pieces of the puzzle.

I'm sort of having the same issue. I updated the firmware on the 1Ds and it finally recognized the camera but it won't let me capture. I did the same thing with a markII and it worked fine. I'm running OS 10.4.2, C1 Pro 3.7 and the 1Ds has firmware 1.0.3. Can you help me figure out what I can't take a picture!

All can Thank Shannon for resolving many problems with tethering problems.

For All Users with Tethering Dilemmas:

The most basic test in Troubleshooting this issue is to verify if Tethering is successful with the Canon Capture software.
Yes = Capture One may be to blame OR No = Capture One is not to blame

If you have not, Please Read the v3.7.1 Release Notes:
    Auto connect camera
After you launch Capture One, the application will try and auto connect your camera to see if it is connected to the computer. When you switch on your camera and the LCD screen is lit, the camera is in a special mode which prevents the operating system from connecting to the camera. You must quickly cancel this mode by either:

    1. Quickly press the shutter half way down and release it again
    2. Turn off the LCD screen

If Capture One does not auto connect your camera after this, reconnect manually via the “File | Reconnect camera†menu item.

Phase One recommends that you first switch on your camera and make sure the LCD screen is turned off before you launch Capture One.

Prevent capturing images if not properly connected
Most cameras can be setup so that you cannot release the shutter if you are not connected to Capture One or if a Media Reader is not present in your camera. This will prevent you from shooting images without being properly connected to Capture One and thus will prevent you from losing any images.

For the Canon 1Ds Mark II you can enable this function via:
    • Custom Functions | Function No 2 | Shutter release without card : select \"Not Possibleâ€

Consult your Camera operating manual for specific details on how to enable this setting.

For successful tethering, All variables must be on the Same Page., i. e. The most recent version of Capture One 3.7.1, the most recent camera Firmware upgrades, and correct camera settings established.

    Sincerely,
    kdc

Actually, for our 1Ds cameras I did the opposite of the what the release notes said and turned Custom Function 02 to allow the camera to take pictures without a CF card and that's what worked. Our Mark II cameras worked before, no matter what setting they were on (provided firmware was updated).

    Shannon,

    Thank You for this clarification.

I read your Case notes closer and now get it. You beat me to the Forum, so very much appreciated.

    Cheers,

Does anyone know if this is the cause of the issue with C1 not recognizing a 20D? I don't understand why but I can shoot teatherd when using Panther but when using Tiger anf C1, the software does not see the camera.

    Help!!!!!!! 😭

Ok.... any timetable on the fix for shooting tethered with a 20D using C1 PRO 3.7.1 in Tiger? We are trying to upgrade our studios systems and this bug is about to cause a HUGE problem for us. We're shooting with both H- series backs and 20Ds.

Thanks, I'd rather not concoct an elaborate workaround if a fix is on the way.

    debradley,

Sorry to say that version 3.7.2 is now available and NO, the 20D and Tiger OS incompatibility issue is not resolved. Developers continue to work on the issue. There is no indication for the next release date.

    Sincerely,
    kc

Can you please get this to work, soon - It is hampering our upgrade path in our busy studio. All our other cameras work fine on Tiger. Seems silly that the most common camera and OS remain incompatible.

I would hardly say the 20D is the most popular. Atleast not for \"Pro\" work.
I have the 1DsMII and shoot tethered all the time both on G5 and Powerbook. Both 10.4.2 and 3.7.2..
    Try repairing permission etc...

Use the Canon Prof software & EOS capture. Select the Captures folder for C1 Pro. Shoot with the EOS software and the RAW files will appear.
PS Canon has on update on thier web site for Tiger compatability.
Sorry running 3 pieces of software is a painn. But its the only workaround I know.
    😕

My point is that the 20D and Tiger is a very popular combination - pro or otherwise. We too shoot with a MKII, as well as an H20 and now a 5D, and would love to be able to shoot tethered to a Tiger Mac with our 20D. One of the resons we switched from Nikon was so we didn't have to deal with arcane workarounds.
