Creating a Transparency

Is it possible to create a transparency from a mask selection similar to PS? I like the mask tool and would like to create a knock out so that I can use different backgrounds.

Please advise.

  No, that's not possible.
  
  C1's adjustment "layers" are similar to PS "adjustment layers" in that there is only a mask, but no content layer. The difference to PS adjustment layers is that one can share the same mask between multiple adjustments.
  
  Clone and heal layers can be thought of having a content layer, but their content is always dependent on a single "Background" image, i.e. you cannot combine multiple images in C1.
