Support for 10 bit color
According to tests of a German newspaper
http://www.heise.de/mac-and-i/meldung/i ... 54496.html
El Capitan is supporting 10 bit color. Apple is acknowledge these findings.
10 bit color seems to work on the current 4k and 5k iMacs as well as previous 5k iMacs and also the current Mac Pro.
Is C1P going to support this in one of the next releases?

Wow, really? 10bit support is definitely unexpected, as apple has refused to do so for years. All these fancy 10-bit Eizo monitor's we use, yet we are only seeing it in 8bit due to software.
BTW link doesn't work. Can't find anything else useful apart from keeping an eye on this topic http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/now ... t.1931788/0 -

Try this one: http://www.heise.de/mac-and-i/meldung/i ... 54496.html
But it's in German...

Oliver, thanks for fixing the link.
Try "10 bit test ramp.zip" at the bottom of

On 4k and newer 5K iMacs you will see a very nice gradient, other systems show clear stripes. Currently this works in Quicklook and Preview only.0 -
I just created a bootable OSX 10.11 to test this, and it actually works! Nice and smooth gradient on my older Eizo screen. Finally apple caught up!
Tested with Mac Pro 6,1, Eizo CS230, OSX 10.11.1 and CaptureOne 8.3.4.

EDIT::
Although this happened!

I was doing some benchmarks on Geekbench 3 and monitor switched off, thought computer crashed so force restarted and this is how it reloaded (from external thunderbolt ssd drive with 10.11), then I booted from normal mac pro drive and it was the same, tried different displayport ports, same thing. Then I switched to HDMI -> HDMI cable which worked fine, and then fixed it with Displayport cable too :-S. Any ideas what happened there?0 -
My understanding is that you can use 10 bit currently only in Preview and Quickview. It does need (significant) changes in the software. Apple has not yet provided any official documentation but acknowledge that certain Macs under El Capitan are supporting 10 bit / 30 bit color. I have seen similar weird color images in my CAD programs using the 10bit example file linked above.
So the question is: Will PhaseOne implement 10bit color in C1P in the near future. My understanding is that currently it is not supported, neither on Win nor on Mac so it might require significant changes in the software.0 -
Just my 5 cents here: I do think that 10 bit color is not disclosured\confirmed yet by Apple to third party developers. Yet only Preview supports it but this is for output.
For input pro grade software such C1 already supports even 14 bits images.0 -

I have loaded up 16 bit tiff file in C1, it displays it it correctly, same as preview with a smooth graduation.0 -
According to cinema5d.com it also seems to work in Photos as well

Well, after completely dismissing my findings it seems like Lloyd from macperformanceguide has now confirmed 10bit support too. http://macperformanceguide.com/blog/201 ... 10bit.html
Nice to know.0 -
10-bit color sounds great, especially for B&W imagery. What universal file format would I use to save the final image? 0
