CI 12.1 Can't Open without accepting Upgrade

Did you save your custom workspace with your own name or simply save it over the default names provided by Phase?

If you saved with your own name it will still be there and you simply need to select it and start using it - although there have been a few changes that you might want to include at some point.

I think that you will also find there is a backup made on upgrade.

If you installed V12.1 alongside rather than over the top of an earlier V12 installation you could very likely start up the older version anyway. However I'm not entirely convinced that would make any difference to your ability to access older workspaces that were changed with the existing Phase provided names and files.

SFA- thank you for the quick response.

I'm relatively new to C1 and I've tried several different work space set ups. I know I've saved several of them with unique names but don't recall if my latest set up has been saved. Which is why I want to open the old version before upgrading.

I don't know how to change whether the upgraded is saved "alongside" or "over the top" of the earlier version. I have not yet installed the upgrade since I would like to open the old version first.

I find it very disappointing that the developers don't allow you to open the old version before installing the "upgrade." Its less of an upgrade if I have to redo my workspace settings.

    Tim,

I'm a little puzzled that you say you have not installed 12.1 yet (If I understood correctly) but C1 is insistng that you upgrade.

It sounds more like you have installed the upgrade but have yet to convert the catalogue/session you are trying to open. That is normal. A backup of the session.catalogue file as it was before 'conversion' will be automatically saved.

Workspaces are entirely separate to catalogues/sessions other than the catalogue/session will usually have knowledge of what the Workspace and settings were last time you opened it.

I have yet to upgrade to 12.1 so there may be something going on there that I have not experienced but even then what you have described seem unusual. I have been using C1 since V6 (indeed briefly V5) and cannot recall facing the challenge you have described. That said I usually install new releases alongside older releases. Nevertheless it sounds like the 12.1 update is installed but you have yet to update the Catalogue(s)/Session(s).

Have a look here (WIN 7 but probably no change if you are using Win 10)

    C:\Program Files\Phase One

to see what you can see in the sub folders.

Because I install alongside previous releases I have earlier version of C1 installation directories and in there can be fond folders (since C1 V10) for the ten default Workspace values and any changes that were applied to them.

Personalised Workspaces with different names are to be found here:

    C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Workspaces

    HTH.

I upgraded to V12.1 and my saved workspaces were still there under the Windows / Workspace Menu. If you are seeing the "upgrade" your session / catalogue dialogue this means your existing catalogue / session was created with a previous version. It does not impact the workspace in my experience.

I would check exactly which version is launching. It is shown in the C1 splash logo immediately after you start C1Pro. C1Pro has never automatically upgraded to a new version, you have to specifically download it from your account.

Grant- you seemed to be correct about it just being a matter of the catalogs loading.

    I'm running Windows 10.

I looked in the AppData folder and saw my various versions of Work spaces so I felt reasonably safe that I'd be able to select my favorite one once I'd completed the upgrade.

After I did the install, my work space loaded correctly so I'd apparently saved it shortly after I set it up.

    Thanks for the assistance!

    Glad you got it resolved.
