Some praise and still a few more wishes
With Version 5 C1 has become much easier and faster in use. And finally I can even process the CRW-files of my old Canon S70 with it (it is recognized as a G6 that has the same sensor). Local copying of settings is now possible, a spot removal tool is there and all that using the suprerior color profiles and detail resolution that C1 always had. I'm beginning to see the light and use it a lot more often now.
I have a few suggestions for an even better and faster workflow below. My first point however is a request for added functionality.
1. The color editor lightness slider has a too narrow range. I use this slider typically for darkening blue skies in landscapes. Right now I have to stack three or more identical adjustments because of the limited range of the slider. I saved a preset but a slider with the full range (just like the other sliders of that tool) would be preferable since the tint of the blue skies varies and sometimes other colors need strong brightness adjustments.
2. The corrections of the color editor cannot be copied locally but only by using the global copy tool. This is probably only a bug.
3. Chromatic aberration needs to be activated for each image separately. I'd like to be able to run this as a batch for a whole folder or selection. I'm usually working with zoom lenses so copy and paste does not really work well since the focal length is rarely the same.
4. Correcting the distortion in the lens correction tab would be easier if a rectangular grid would be visible when grabbing the slider with the mouse just like with the rotation tool.
5. Rotate freehand has to be activated manually. I'd like to be able to set the rotation tool to "freehand" as a default.
6. The spot removal tool is most welcome and works extremely well. However two things could use some enhancement: First the size of the tool cannot be adjusted graphically in advance. Something like adjustment with the mouse wheel or by holding the control key would make the work with the spot tool a lot faster. Secondly when a spot occurs in an area with structures like tiles on a wall or at the edge of a structure the structure disappears after the spot removal. It would be nice to be able to copy the structure from a similar area.
7. The reduction of color noise starts evening out not only color noise but also the luminance structures when it is set (or set automatically) to a value higher than 35-40 at high ISO. Above that I get a foggy haze in areas with noise. This used to be the case with 3.7 as well and seems to be a part of C1s demosaicing algorithms. Is there a possibility (or can it be created) to limit the automatic color noise reduction to a certain value?
I'm looking forward to your answers and a even better use of C1.
Best regards
Jochen
P.S.: Do the programmers already think of implementing local corrections with gradients and spots?

Jochen,
I think all of your suggestions would be better met with response in a support case directly to Phase One rather than on the User to User forum. All good thoughts.0 -
Jochen,
re: your number 7, it is possible now to set the chroma NR to a specific default value to suit your requirements - you can adjust and save pretty much any C1 function to a default that you prefer.0 -
Regarding the size of the brush in the Spot too...
Why not use the Bracket Keys as in PhotoShop?0
