    thopunk,

If you are done with a Session, the Previews and Thumbnails can be removed.
When you need to reload a Session, new Previews and Thumbnails will build.
If you want to keep all the image adjustment data, you will need to save the ImageSettings folder.

Be sure you are using current version 3.7.5
The Focus Utility display processes the selection from the RAW file and should be quite clean.

    Cheers,
    k c

Is your camera set to shoot in only RAW (CRW's or whatever). Should not be any jaggie, etc.

It is not a good idea to attempt opening those images in those folders. View your images in the CO window only. As Keith mentioned, after you are done with the session, you can purge Previews and Thumbnails to save HD space, but tinkering with them during a job can mess up the folder structure. Best to just shoot, allow those RAWs to collect in the Captures Folder, process the ones you want, and get the finished files out of the Processed Folder when done.

    thopunk,

They are only necessary if you are still working on a Sessions image files.
The size of the preview file varies with camera model, but they can build-up and use system resources. Good File maintenance will solve.

My2Cents on RAW + JPEG shooting...
    > Save the space on your CF for RAWs only
    > Not really a back-up, if card fails, all are lost
    > Use the QuickProof algorithm to process JPEGs fast and with color management to produce superior images than in-camera processed images.

    Sincerely,
    k c

thanks. the only reason i shoot raw+jpeg is so the client can take the jpegs immdiately for preview on their own time.

Doing a process in Quick Proof takes about 2 seconds per file. A real time saver. That way, if you are doing a custom WB applied to all, those jpegs will now look just like your files.
