More Catalog-Horror: folders gone!
I have a catalog with two folders full of images. The images of those 2 folders are also represented in an Album.
After hours of working on the files while the Album was selected (and hence all the images in the catalog were displayed) I look in the list of folders: ALL GONE!
There are NO folders, only the Catalog symbol (which of course does not contain anything since I left all the images in their original folders).
If I use "Add Folder" for one of the two folders that contain the images, they show up again - empty!
The ONLY place where I can still access the images is the Album.
Please Phase One, fix the Catalog system or kick it out again! When working with Catalogs, C1 turns into a time bomb. This is not a beta version. It's 7.1.1 and we do serious, paid work with it.

Have you done a catalog verify?
I have noticed similar issues and it appears that CO711 is not refreshing the catalog database and its display in the Library correctly. A verify might help.
Adding the folders as you described sure does not help. That has another purpose!0
