Nikon D810 - import images

I've been importing images from my Nikon D300 for years with no bother but have recently bought a D810, but something's different. There doesn't seem an obvious way of importing them as the camera doesn't show up as a folder when I'm in the 'Import Images' window. Any ideas?

  It won't as far as I am aware.
  
  You can either connect the camera and download to the computer and then import OR use a card reader and import directly from that. It will likely be quicker that way.

  The earlier generations of cameras could attach as Mass Storage devices rather than cameras (over PTP). Most current cameras are PTP-only, which means that accessing the files stored on the CF card isn't possible.
  
  In short, yes it's necessary to use an additional card reader with your D800.
