LR 3 Beta: Close but no cigar
I did some extensive testing yesterday with the new beta of LR 3, hoping that maybe they'd finally got it looking right and I could shave a lot of time off my workflow by doing more in the same place. But, C1 still killed it for color, contrast, realism, and just looking-good-ness (not to mention getting there faster). The NR in LR3 is pretty amazing and the local adjustments would be super helpful, but it's not enough still. I was slightly bummed but also relieved, because I do love C1 so much. Very excited for v5!
I'm curious if anyone else has had similar findings?

I think it is definitely an improvement. I am sure that they have not put all of the bells and whistles in yet, so I am holding judgement. To my eyes, C1 V4 is still superior. Not sure why you are relieved, though. The better each company does, the more it pushes the other, and we all win. Phase One is well up to the competition.
By the way, I too am looking forward to what Phase One includes in V5. They have an excellent track record in my opinion and I look forward to what they have up their sleeve 😄0 -
haha, I was just relieved because 1. I didn't want to spend more money to buy lightroom and 2. I honestly enjoy working in C1, but I don't in all the other programs. LR feels like trying to win a hard video game, C1 feels like making art. So, I was relieved to know that my preferred process still was the best. 0 -
I agree, I like working in Capture One much better. I would like to see a local adjustment brush, ideally something that would allow me to stack and mask Variants, that would be nice. It would save a lot of time for me.
