Stop duplicate files when I import?

Hi, when I import files into a new session or catalogue, it creates copies of the files. I don't want this to happen, how do I stop it? I'm importing files from my computers hard disc, not from a memory card. Thanks!

  For sessions, the import dialogue is mostly useful if you're ingesting files from a memory card. If you are working in a session you don't really need to use the import function. Either have the images stored into the Capture folder for that session, or add the folder that currently contains the image files as a session favorite.
  
  With catalogs, use the import dialoge window but be sure the "Store Files" drop-down menu is set to "Current Location".
  
  Oh - and for both scenarios be sure that the backup feature is disabled. That by design will of course make copies of the files as they are running through the import process.
