Very slow to open catalog
Hi guys
I'm new to Capture one, and I recently move to Capture one from Lightroom.
My problem is that my catalog is very slow to open (30 - 60 sec), and I would like to get some help to speed it up a bit 😊
My computer is 27" iMac (2.9Ghz i5 w fusion drive) my RAW images are on a Thunder bolt external HDD. I have a single catalog with all my images (some 30K images).
Would it help to split up my catalog? Are there any other tricks I could use to speed up C1?
Thanks

Hi,
I have 17000+ files, and my catalog opens in less than 10 seconds (which is slower however than Lightroom).
I have only one catalog. I work with a MacBook Pro Retina 15" (early 2013), 16GB RAM, i7 2.3 GHz processor. My RAW are on an external USB2.0 HDD.
I am not sure it could be the origin of your trouble, but : what is the size of your previews ? Is Open CL activated in your preferences ?0 -
30 to 60 seconds isn't that uncommon, at least in my experience.I have around 40,000 images.
Thats one reason why I use sessions when working on a particular project. Once all editing is done, I'll move the session photos into the general catalog. Within the catalog, I'll create a collection for that shoot.
One other thing, C1 will remember the last thing you were working on. So if you create a collection, and close it, C1 will open up within that collection. The fewer photos it has to open with, the quicker it loads. So opening in a collection of a couple hundred pics will be faster.0 -

What happens if you first disconnect your external Drive and then start C1 again?
You can try to check/ repair catalog, maybe is there a issue.0 -
Thanks guys!
Open CL was deactivate, switching that on improve the loading speed from 3 min to 10-20 sec 😊0
