Gradient mask & color balance
Hi,
i don't know the reason, but is it possible, that you could not use "color balance" with local adjustments? Why?
Let's say i have a landscape picture and i would like to have a green sky. Normally I would use a gradient mask on the sky and then shift the color balance. I could do that with the curves, I know. But I think it would me more intuitive to use the color balance tool. Is it possible, to use the color balance tool with gradients and I just don't know how?

The Colour Balance tool cannot be used as a local adjustment. But you can do several things to get the result you want. Use a gradient mask (or a wide brush) to create the mask on the sky. Then you have several choices
(1) You could set a different white balance for the sky using the WB tool on the local adjustments tab.
(2) You could use the Colour Editor )not the Colour Balance). Select the Advanced option in the Colour Editor tool on the local adjustments tab. Click the colour you want to adjust then use the hue rotation slider. That may not get you all the way to green in one go but you can click the same point again to create another adjustment and move it further round the circle. You can also adjust the saturation slider in the tool. It took me about three applications of the tool to get to a good deep green colour from a blue sky.
(3) Use the curves tool and adjust just the blue, red or green channel to get the colour shift you want.
All of these should only affect the masked area and leave the rest of the image untouched.

If you open the tool tab that is related to Local Adjustments (assuming it is still set to default settings) you will see all of the tools that, currently, have been developed to work with local adjustment masks.
If Phase decide that it may be meaningful and useful to add other tools at some point they will, presumably, undertake the necessary software engineering for them to work cleanly and effectively within the concepts of the masking functionality.
