Media Reader won't download the second CF card, only the 1st
Phase One Media Reader Phase One A/S 2004
Media Reader usually starts when I insert a CF card, but when I insert the second of a series of CF cards, it won't download from that CF card. It seems to think it has already done it. The "Import" button is greyed out. How do I get Media Reader to download all images from a series of CF cards (usually only two cards)?
I'd like the file names to continue in sequence following the file names from the first card.
Windows XP 2 gig ram.

Can anyone make a suggestion? Have I missed something in setting this up?

waltb,
When you have multiple CF cards to download, do it the old fashioned way using Windows.
Then use Browse... to select and establish as Collection/Session in Capture One
And finally use the Batch Rename tool to rename all images.

Walt - is this on a USB or Firewire reader? I'm using a Sandisk USB reader and once you've done the Windoze "safe to remove hardware" bit, Windoze won't recognise another card until I unplug the USB cable to the reader and reconnect it. I then insert the new card and Media Reader pops up again. See if that helps?

I understand, however, my USB reader is built in and cannot be unpluged. Also, I suspect the the Media Reader would try to name the files taken from the second card starting from "000" and would conflict with the file names from the first card.
I had hoped that there would be a simple solution, something I overlooked. I really don't want to fool around with the process -- just plug in the cards and "go."
Still looking. And hoping. Thanks.

No, in my experiance Media Reader correctly names the files from the second card in sequence and won't clobber the existing files. I think your problem isn't actually a Media Reader issue - does Windoze recognise that you've changed the card?

No, it opens but the "start" button is greyed out for the second CF card and I cannot get it to start the download. 0 -
Can you see the second card in Windows Explorer or My Computer? I think you may have the same issue that I have, which is a problem with the Windoze USB driver, not Media Reader. 0 -
Oh yes, Windows (XP) sees the second card just fine, and is the method I choose to use to download the files from both the first and second card, when I have more than one CF card to download.
The problem is the Media Reader will recognize the first card and download the files from it properly, but when I insert my second CF card in my internal card reader, Media Reader will not recognize it as a new card, the "Import" button is greyed out and I cannot download the second card. I must then download the files the "old fashioned" way, by drag-n-drop in Windows, and then my files are named differently, and I have a big mess with file names.
I also have the option of using ACDSee's "Device Detector. " That will recognize the second CF card, but will name the files starting from 000 again (ie, does not know it is a 2nd card in a sequence of two), and I have the problem of the new files not named in sequence.

Hmm - does the Media Reader window pop up by itself when you insert the second card? 0 -

My experience is that it's hiding behind the windows media reader after inserting card. It also sits in the system tray , ( I have auto login off) so all you have to do is click on the icon and import.

Well, it must be a miracle. Either that or I'm really dumb. 🤓
I tried again to download from two cards in sequence, and tonight Media Reader performed exactly as I had hoped. It recognized the second card, download the images, and it continued the naming sequence for the files.
All is well, and I don't know how or why. I do know it did not perform this way after several tries in the past.
Thanks for taking the time to help. It is appreciated.
